Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) on upstream oil & gas data, with primary focus on subsurface (exploration, wells, reservoir, production). Additional knowledge and experience all upstream, midstream and downstream will be advantageous. Bridge the gap between business stakeholders, IT, and data engineering teams to ensure alignment of data solutions with business objectives. Requirements Gathering & Analysis Engage with client stakeholders to elicit, document, and validate business and technical requirements for data management and architecture projects. Map and optimize business processes related to subsurface data acquisition, integration, quality, and analytics. Translate business needs into functional and technical specifications for data platforms, pipelines, and governance frameworks. Solution Design & Delivery Collaborate and engage with the business users, as well as, data architects, engineers, and solution architects to design scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions. Support the selection, integration, and deployment of data management tools and platforms (e.g., OSDU, PPDM, cloud-native solutions). Oversee data migration, quality control, and harmonization efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Understand and design use cases for AI interventions for data migrations and process modernization. Stakeholder Management Act as the primary liaison between the consultancy, client business units, and technical teams. Present findings, recommendations, and thought leadership at industry forums and client workshops. Drive change management and user adoption for new data solutions and workflows. Quality & Compliance Define and enforce data governance, data quality, and master data management (MDM) best practices where applicable. Ensure all solutions adhere to security, privacy, and compliance standards relevant to the oil & gas industry.
Required Skills & Experience:
Domain Expertise 10+ years' experience in business analysis, data management, or data architecture within the oil & gas upstream sector, with a strong focus on subsurface data. Deep understanding of subsurface workflows, data types (e.g., LAS, SEG-Y), and industry standards (e.g., OSDU, PPDM). o Experience with digital transformation, cloud migration, and data platform modernization in oil & gas. Technical Skills Proficiency in data modeling, data governance, and data quality frameworks. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data integration tools, and modern data architectures. Knowledge of AI/ML applications in subsurface data management is a plus. A thorough business knowledge of the end-to-end of the Unconventional Well Lifecycle, inclusive of subsurface, well planning, Permit to drill, permit to build and Drilling and Completions execution (i.e. Fracking). Consulting & Communication Proven ability to lead client engagements, manage stakeholders, and deliver business value through data-driven solutions. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience working in or with consulting and services organizations.
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geoscience, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Relevant certifications (e.g.
DAMA, OSDU, PPDM
) are highly desirable. Preferred Attributes Experience working with major oil & gas operators or service companies in Houston or similar markets. Demonstrated thought leadership in upstream data management (e.g., publications, presentations, industry forums). Ability to work in a fast-paced, client-facing environment and manage multiple priorities.
