Job Description

PCAPS - ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST I
Job Description Summary Performs public contact of a clerical nature in a high volume environment. Provides information to departmental staff and the general public and operates various office equipment some of which is unique to the animal shelter. High school diploma or GED. Must have one to two years experience performing general office duties such as typing, filing, and answering telephones; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work in a stressful environment, diffuse stressful situations, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have proficiency in use of database technology and use of networked computer systems. Must be knowledgeable in the proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Must have ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate percentages and decimals. Must be able to accurately process detailed information. Must have basic problem-solving skills and be able to handle multiple tasks with interruptions. Must be familiar with office equipment: copier, multi-line phones, fax machine, two-way radio, cameras, computer, etc. Must be able to elicit information from irate, upset, and anxious callers. Must have considerable knowledge of the streets and physical layout of the county and city. Ability to work with little supervision and maintain confidentiality.
