$153,000 - $184,000 Role Overview The Database Engineer (Level 3) provides high-level technical expertise across database design, development, implementation, information storage/retrieval, data flow, and analysis. This role is responsible for architecting relational and object-oriented databases, building custom parser and data loading software, and mapping long-range database administration requirements. Working primarily from initial lifecycle requirements through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC), you will design robust database structures tailored to overall system architecture. Key responsibilities include balancing critical technical trade-offs—such as data volume, user concurrency, physical/logical distribution, query latency, retention policies, security, and domain controls.
Key Responsibilities Architecture & Design:
Direct and lead the development of database structures, schemas, parser tools, and loading software aligned with overall enterprise architecture.
Full Lifecycle Engineering:
Manage technical requirements from project inception through testing and IOC, providing strategic recommendations for system optimization, development, and maintenance.
Query & Data Manipulation:
Translate complex requirements into functional database schemas by building, refining, and automating ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros.
Cloud & Integration:
Build complex, modern systems leveraging tables, Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and cloud-based storage/retrieval methodologies.
Trade-Off Analysis:
Evaluate and balance competing technical demands involving scale, access controls, performance tuning, physical distribution, and system security.
Required Qualifications Clearance:
Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.
Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience as a Database Engineer on programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university. (Five (5) additional years of relevant DBE experience may be substituted for the degree).
Database Administration:
Extensive, hands-on experience with installation, maintenance, and patching for Oracle Database, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and Oracle Data Guard.
Operating Systems & Scripting:
Strong proficiency with Linux OS environments, standard Linux utilities/commands, and Bash scripting. Desired Skills Experience with MongoDB or similar NoSQL database platforms.
