(A)Possession of a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field; OR (B)Possession of a bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience in copywriting, news writing, public relations, or digital communications; OR (C)Possession of an associate's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field and three (3) years of relevant experience; OR (D)Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and six (6) years of relevant experience; OR (E)An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of sections A-D above.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This is a professional, non-supervisory position responsible for supporting the public relations and communications functions of Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. The position focuses on developing, writing, and producing clear, accurate, and engaging communications that support the BOCES' purpose and values, programs, services, and initiatives. Work includes creating content for internal and external audiences through multiple platforms such as print, digital, web, social media, and multimedia formats. The incumbent works under the general direction of the District Superintendent or designee(s) and performs related duties as required.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of principles, terminology, and techniques of public relations, communications, publicity, and journalism; Working knowledge of writing and editing for multiple audiences and platforms; Working knowledge of basic principles of graphic design, publication layout, and visual communication; Working knowledge of digital communication tools, content management systems, and social media platforms; Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and engaging informational materials; Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Ability to edit and proofread written and visual materials; Ability to use standard office software, word processing, and digital communication tools; Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, administrators, media representatives, and community partners; Ability to create layouts for publications and prepare files for print and digital distribution; Ability to manipulate graphic, photo, and video files for communication purposes.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
