Position Overview:
The Systems Integration Specialist coordinates and operates the school district's database systems, ensuring optimum system performance, integrity, and security. This position is responsible for the overall management of all of the databases used in the district and as such has regular, ongoing interaction with the Technology Administrators and their staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Administers and supports Student Information System (SIS) for the district. Imports and exports data into/from SIS and connected systems Creates and manages SIS accounts for administrators, teachers, and other staff. Verifies that proper access levels are assigned. Ensures that data required from SIS for state reporting is accurate. Generates reports as needed. Helps with yearly scheduling process for all schools Sets up courses and sections for teachers Coordinates and performs the end-of-year process to prepare SIS for the new school year. Provides technical support to district staff on any SIS issues. Maintains one or more test servers to provide access to data from prior school years and to test system updates/changes before performing on production server. Ensures that the system is backed up on a nightly basis and prior to any significant changes, such as end-of-year. Reviews on a recurring basis, the adequacy of data processing services and makes recommendations to the Directors of Teaching and Learning and School Services for upgrading and/or modifying hardware and software. Responsible for the rostering, integration, support, and maintenance of other databases and database systems Supports the various departments who are responsible for PIMS. Where necessary enters data into SIS to support PIMS and generates reports from SIS to submit to PIMS. Responsible for the submission of PIMS reports and ACSs in adherence with the PIMS Data Collection Calendar. Keeps all staff distribution lists and directories up-to-date in Active Directory, on the website, and other locations where staff listings need to be maintained. Serves as a problem-solver in the area of data processing and as a resource person/consultant in assisting school district personnel in utilizing database systems. Recommends the purchase of supplies and materials needed to support the day-to-day operation of the database systems. Coordinates data processing services with appropriate administrative and support staff. Provides district administrators and support staff with in-service training for the proper use of the computer system. Assists in the development, documentation, implementation, and assurance of an ongoing program of system security, including appropriate back-up procedures for all database systems. Works with the Director of Technology to develop a disaster recovery plan for all critical database systems. Remains current with the latest developments in the area of database administration. Participates in professional conferences, workshops and activities related to database administration. Coordinates the design, development and installation of new database systems and provides enhancements as needed. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate or Baccalaureate degree with major in computer science or related certifications required. Appropriate training in all phases of database administration. Ability to communicate and interact with various district employees. Experience with Oracle, Microsoft SQL, Google for Education and/or other relational database systems is preferred Experience with Student Information Systems and PIMS is preferred. Experience with PowerSchool is preferred. Five years of hands-on experience in integrating multiple database systems. Experience with financial database system. Experience with Pentamation is preferred. Moderate to advanced experience in Excel. Cross-platforms computing experience is desirable (Windows and Mac). The individual, while performing in this position, will be required to: Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and to talk, hear, taste and smell; Sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; and occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch; Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus; Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; Exposed to moderate noise level; Must be able to function at a high level and must possess the judgment and maturity required for making decisions that affect large numbers of staff. The nature of the job requires dealing with sensitive information and strict standards of confidentially must be adhered to; and May be required to work under stressful conditions when dealing with difficult issues and when participating in special education matters; and Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances. Satisfactory pre-employment physical.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12 months, 260 days. Salary and benefits in accordance to the formal Administrator's agreement with the Board of Directors.
