Data Warehouse Manager The Intersect Group - 3.7 Tempe, AZ Job Details Contract $65 - $70 an hour 17 hours ago Qualifications Data engineering Data modeling Computer Science IT management SQL AWS Bachelor's degree Team management ETL Kimball methodology Leadership Full Job Description Job Summary seeks an experienced Data Warehouse Manager to lead our AWS Redshift Enterprise Data Warehouse team. Managing 90+ schemas, 3,000+ tables, and 60TB+ of data, this role oversees mission-critical ETL operations, team performance, and stakeholder delivery within a dynamic 600+ person Enterprise Technology organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Team & Operations Leadership Manage daily operations for a Redshift EDW team, orchestrating 3,000+ nightly ETL jobs (95%+ success SLA) Drive database maintenance, performance tuning, and capacity planning for 60TB+ warehouse (current + 3-year forecast) Establish and monitor operational KPIs (job success, data latency, query performance, cost efficiency) Lead intake, prioritization, triage, and delivery of customer data requests and warehouse enhancements Hands-on Technical Experience Data Architecture Experience modeling relational database schema/tables/columns (Dimensional Models, Kimball Methodology) Experience implementing and supporting ETL / data engineering tasks (data ingest, copy, enrichment, scheduling) on an enterprise scale. This includes using enterprise ETL tools for data movement (preferred tool is Snaplogic), familiarity with data integrations (table copy, API, FTP, pub/sub), and methods for staging and transforming data Experience administering security in a relational database (RedShift) in AWS Experience troubleshooting common database issues (duplicate keys, inefficient joins/views, DB performance issues) Technical Strategy & Oversight Ensure reliable ETL execution from 50+ source applications to Redshift using enterprise tools (SnapLogic preferred) Experience administering security in a relational database in AWS Implement disaster recovery, backup/retention policies, and high-availability strategies Monitor and control $1M+ annual warehouse costs (Redshift compute, SnapLogic licensing, staffing) Data Governance & Quality Enforce data quality standards, lineage tracking, and metadata management across warehouse Collaborate with enterprise data governance team on cataloging, classification, and compliance Manage data retention policies and PII protection for higher education regulations (FERPA) Stakeholder Management Oversee intake of customer requests for data warehouse additions and enrichments. This Manager role will be accountable for assessing and fulfilling customer requests Experience with managing stakeholders within - must be customer service-oriented. Partner with academic departments, IT leaders, and peer platform teams to align data delivery with business priorities Communicate technical roadmaps, capacity constraints, and delivery timelines to executives and customers This role will need to communicate externally (with customers), up (with technology leaders, across (with technology peers), and down (with their team of ETL developers) Team Development Recruit, onboard, and develop ETL developers, DBAs, and data engineers Conduct 1:1s, career planning, and skills development for direct reports Foster cross-team collaboration with Data Science, BI, and Application Development groups Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field + 5 years computing experience, including 3-4+ years managing, leading or mentoring technical team members, OR equivalent combination Hands-on experience managing enterprise data warehouse operations at 50TB+ scale Preferred Qualifications 3+ years managing AWS Redshift clusters (distribution keys, sort keys, materialized views, WLM) Enterprise ETL leadership using SnapLogic, Matillion, Fivetran, or equivalent Experience with higher education data models (students, faculty, courses, admissions) AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Database Specialty) Work Environment Hybrid role based in Tempe, AZ (3 days) Reports to Director of Data Platforms Direct management of ETL developers/DBAs Matrix collaboration with 600+ Enterprise Technology team
