Who We Are Consulting for Statistics, Computing, and Analytics Research (CSCAR @ ISR) is a service unit within the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research, with service spokes located in the Statistics Department within LSA and the Biostatistics Department within the School of Public Health. CSCAR @ ISR supports U-M researchers in their work involving research design, data analysis, and research dissemination. CSCAR @ ISR consultants work directly with investigators, including faculty, students, and staff, who are engaged in all areas of research conducted at the University of Michigan. CSCAR @ ISR seeks an Operations Manager to serve as a member of its core staff within the Institute for Social Research. Job Summary The CSCAR @ ISR Operations Manager will have a good working knowledge of quantitative methods and research design, and will be trained in triaging requests for CSCAR @ ISR services to the various spokes, depending on the consulting schedules and availability at each spoke / office. The Operations Manager will also take consulting appointments as well, providing service on statistical methods and research design to CSCAR @ ISR clients. The Operations Manager needs to have a good working knowledge of both database design (to track CSCAR @ ISR appointments across all spokes, maintain consultant schedules, etc.) and web design (to maintain CSCAR @ ISR-related webpages, create appointment forms, etc.). The Operations Manager will also be responsible for organizing CSCAR workshops (including generation of promotional materials, marketing of upcoming workshops, communication with faculty and staff instructors, and maintaining a database of registered participants), and documenting and monitoring requests for coverage of CSCAR @ ISR staff and faculty by existing research projects (where faculty or staff are having their time covered by active research awards or contracts). Finally, the Operations Manager will be responsible for working with the CSCAR @ ISR Director to oversee, monitor, and maintain the CSCAR @ ISR budget. Responsibilities• Oversee operations for the statistical analysis work conducted by the Consulting for Statistics, Computing, and Analytics Research (CSCAR @ ISR) faculty, staff statisticians, and graduate student research assistants (GSRAs) as they provide guidance and statistical analysis support for research studies, clinical trials, and/or observational studies. Process all incoming consulting requests and manage the CSCAR @ ISR consulting schedule across all spokes of the service unit. Provide statistical consulting services to CSCAR @ ISR clients in areas of statistical and research methodology where the Operations Manager has received formal training. Design databases to track CSCAR@ ISR appointments. Create a website to promote and describe CSCAR @ ISR services, including forms for consulting and research support requests and promotion of upcoming CSCAR @ ISR workshops. Work with faculty and staff to organize and promote CSCAR @ ISR workshops, including the creation of databases that record all registered participants, reservation of facilities where the workshops will be offered, and creation and analysis of workshop evaluation forms. Document and monitor requests for coverage of CSCAR @ ISR faculty and staff on existing research projects, including management of charging arrangements and agreements for services to be provided. Work closely with the CSCAR @ ISR Director to manage the overall CSCAR budget. Required Qualifications• We'd like to hear from you if you have: Experience with database and web design. Master's degree in statistics, data science, survey methodology, biostatistics, geospatial data sciences, environmental informatics, or quantitative social science. Prior experience managing teams of researchers in an operational role that includes schedule management. Experience with database and web design. Demonstrated advanced statistical proficiency. Demonstrated competency using R. Demonstrated competency with at least one other statistical software package, such SAS, Python, or Stata. Possession of excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 5+ years of experience in data analysis. Demonstrated experience leading others in the implementation of data management tasks and preparing data for analysis, including handling of large/complex data sets. Ability to effectively lead collaborative, cross-unit teams. Desired Qualifications• We are especially interested if you also have: Experience organizing and executing academic workshops on quantitative methodology. Experience with the creation of online forms and documentation of the data being gathered using those forms.
