The Loudoun County Department of Family Services (DFS) is seeking a compassionate, customer-focused Information & Referral Specialist to join the Information & Referral/Coordinated Entry Team. This full-time, grant-funded position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by connecting residents with essential programs, services, and community resources. As an Information & Referral Specialist, you will serve as a central point of contact for individuals, families, and community organizations seeking assistance. You will assess client needs, provide accurate information and referrals, and connect individuals experiencing housing instability or homelessness with services that best support their unique circumstances. This position also plays an important role in community outreach and collaboration with local service providers to strengthen access to resources throughout Loudoun County. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide information, referrals, and assistance to residents, community organizations, and partner agencies in accordance with agency policies, service standards, and state reporting requirements. Conduct client assessments to identify needs, evaluate available resources, and make appropriate referrals. Assist individuals in exploring options, resolving service needs, and advocating on their behalf when appropriate. Staff the Coordinated Entry intake line, serving as the single point of entry for homeless services. Monitor and respond to requests received through the intake phone line, department email, and online service portals, prioritizing requests to ensure timely service delivery. Utilize automated systems and databases to document services, maintain accurate records, and support program reporting. Maintain required program documentation while ensuring the confidentiality and security of client information. Collaborate with community organizations, service providers, and internal programs to coordinate services and improve access to resources. Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental operations.

Associates degree in Sociology, Psychology or related human services field and one (1) year of work experience in case coordination, which may include client intake or call center or in a social or human service setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of human services systems, community resources, and referral processes. Ability to work with people of all backgrounds and sensitivity to the challenges of those experiencing homelessness and/or unstable housing situations with complex presentations, including chronic trauma. Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Homeless Management Information System. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment background checks to include criminal, credit, DMV, and CPS/APS. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Must be available for duty beyond the typical workday (8:30 am- 5:00 pm), which includes weekends and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position for the assigned department. May be required to work and may be assigned to an alternate worksite(s) to carry out duties that support operational needs.
