GIS Intern Palmer, AK, United States | req906 Apply Now Share Save Job Posted on: 6/2/2026 Back to Search GIS Intern We are searching for an experienced GIS Intern at our Palmer HQ facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Student interns are used periodically to help supplement the workforce throughout MTA. Interns will work in close collaboration with the GIS staff by assisting with research and records correction of various GIS and Business Intelligence (BI) generated discrepancy reports between the network equipment, customer location and billing information.
SPECIFIC TASK DESCRIPTION
Assist the GIS team with analysis, researching the cause(s) of various reports, including BI, MSI, M4, etc. Help identify patterns in the discrepancies caused by current automation or current workflows failing, or where new automation may help. Assist with reconciling equipment information into records database where applicable or notifying the appropriate work group of corrections that need to be made by their department. Good written and oral communication skills are essential along with the ability to be effective and efficient working either independently with mentor oversight, or as a supporting role as a member of a small team. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION
Applicants currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program for Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Systems & Network Technology, GIS, or equivalent major will be given first preference. Applicants will be currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship. When a student intern is required during the normal school year, the applicant may be a part time (minimum of 6 credits) student. 3.0 GPA or greater preferred. Strong computer skills in MS Office and drafting skills preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Previous related internship/work experience preferred, preference will be given to returning student interns that have performed satisfactorily in the past. •full (PDF) job description available upon request•
