03708 Description The purpose of this position is to design and carry out local- and site-level suitability analysis for potential sites for the Cosmic Explorer Observatory (a future gravitational-wave observatory) using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This work will be supervised by Dr. Joshua Smith. • Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding or new Grant/Contract. Essential Duties Local and site-level suitability analysis. Calibration of GIS systems between those implemented in ArcGIS and those implemented in Python. Implementation of land cut. Fill estimates into ArcGIS. Accounting for the presence of roads, wells, windmills, flood areas, and other factors. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Familiarity with suitability analysis using GIS and ArcGIS. Experience with geographic assessment of siting aspects for the Cosmic Explorer gravitational-wave observatory, which poses unique challenges, such as 25-mile long arms.

EDUCATION

Minimum Master's degree in geography or GIST, or a related field.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-25 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
