POSITIONIT
Central is looking for Part-Time/Extra-Help Technology Specialist I candidates to support Desktop and GIS operations. The Desktop role focuses on supporting and troubleshooting desktops and laptops, imaging new systems, installing and updating hardware and software, and ensuring a smooth and secure experience for users. The GIS position supports the County's geographic information systems by maintaining and updating datasets, publishing map layers, supporting web-based mapping applications, and helping departments that rely on spatial data for their daily operations. Both roles work closely with other IT teams and require strong communication, collaboration, and customer service skills. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Coordinates and provides technical support to County personnel, over the telephone; analyzes and solves standard software, hardware, and network problems;Receives, reviews and/or logs requests from end users regarding computer hardware, software and/or peripheral equipment problems; writes and tracks trouble tickets/work orders;Provides first-level assistance to customers; verifies the location of the problem; elicits information from end user on the nature of the issue; resolves issue or refers to higher level staff member when necessary;Reviews and tracks service requests and trouble reports related to hardware and software problems and coordinates with end users and/or managers to ensure that customer needs are met. Maintains records of work completed and resolutions;Prioritizes, schedules, and dispatches field calls;Provides one-on-one training pertaining to the use of standard applications, equipment, and/or systems, including audio/video equipment and telecommunication equipment and systems, personal computers, lap top computers, mobile devices, and general office software;Monitors routine system parameters such as response time and general performance; tests and sets up basic hardware and software configurations; performs basic maintenance and repair on system components;Administers and maintains County standards for system hardware and software; develops system related documentation;Participates in application installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance;Reviews, submits, and tracks requests for system enhancements and equipment upgrades;Maintains an inventory of all computer systems, peripherals, and software; andPerforms other related duties as assigned.

Analyzes spatial data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software;Creates and updates GIS maps, charts, graphics and diagrams using ESRI ArcGIS Pro, for use in public reports and representations, ensuring the accuracy and precision of spatial information;Troubleshoots, debugs, and resolves a variety of operations/business-process related to GIS applications issues;Maintains the layers and web maps/applications;Performs miscellaneous administrative duties as needed, such as data entry and billing activities; andPerforms other related duties as assigned.

EXAMINATION
PROCESSMost County recruitments consists of the steps detailed below and are governed by Merit Principles. The examination process ensures that all applicants are given the same opportunity to gain employment within Stanislaus County.
Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on. Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position. Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts. Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months but may be extended up to eighteen months.
GENERAL INFORMATIONCLASSIFICATION
INFORMATIONPart-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.
