Job Description

This seasonal position has flexibility to perform in multiple capacities, depending upon the needs of the Department. The expected focus for FY27 is data compilation, analysis, and organization, including significant work in GIS, Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, and archival systems.

This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Daily use of Geographic Information System (GIS); Develops maps to present spatial data that support policy analysis and development; Leads efforts to digitize existing spatial data, including plats, plans, easements, and permits; Cleans and evaluates data for accuracy; Researches and documents historic Board and Commission cases and Council actions; Communicates technical and non-technical information verbally and in writing in a clear and professional manner with engineers, contractors, outside agencies and members of the general public; Assists in the maintenance of various department records, possibly including scanning of documents and data entry; Performs research on technical and non-technical issues and crafts professionally written summary memos with recommendations to management; Maintains complete and accurate data creation documentation, including metadata, process notes, and data organization charts.
General Skill Level:
Ability to use modern Geographic Information System (GIS) software. General knowledge of how mapping can be applied to solve spatial and community development challenges; General understanding of property rights and entitlements that define the ownership, control, and use of resources; Training and/or experience in property research methodologies; Experience with Microsoft Office Products, including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
Education/Experience:
Required:
Associate degree, including at least one course in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or related field; Demonstrated ability to perform basic operations in either ArcGIS, QGIS, Maptitude, or PostGIS.
Preferred:
Undergraduate degree in Geospatial Science, Geography, Urban Planning, Data Analysis, or related field GIS or GSAV Certificate from an accredited university; Formal training in Microsoft Excel and/or other data organization and analysis software. Physical Requirements /
