Job Description

As a GIS Technician you will support the creation, maintenance, and quality assurance of municipal geospatial datasets. A major focus of the role is converting as‑built drawings and construction documents into high‑quality GIS features following MGP and client standards. The position works closely with the Service Delivery Manager or designated Analyst Lead to deliver accurate, consistent data products that support client operations.
In this position you will:
Convert CAD/PDF as‑built drawings and markups into GIS feature classes. Interpret plan sets, redlines, field notes, and construction revisions accurately. Translate CAD layers into GIS datasets with correct feature types, domains, and attribution. Perform structured editing of linear networks (mains, laterals), structures (manholes, valves), and other municipal assets. Edit and maintain GIS datasets from multiple sources including CAD, field data, spreadsheets, and legacy documents. Execute rigorous QA/QC for accuracy, completeness, topology, and network connectivity. Document errors and rework trends to support continuous improvement. Assist the Service Delivery Manager or Analyst Lead with data management project work. Prepare follow‑up materials for field verification of uncertain as‑built data. Respond to client mapping/data requests promptly and accurately. Produce standard and custom map products in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Deliver clean, review‑ready conversion outputs for client use. Working knowledge of GIS editing concepts (feature creation, snapping, basic geoprocessing, attribution). Ability to interpret technical documentation (plan sets, markups, construction notes) and translate it into structured GIS updates. Strong attention to detail and comfort working with repetitive, standards-driven production workflows. Clear written communication skills for documenting edits, assumptions, and QA notes. Preferred qualifications Experience with CAD-to-GIS conversion workflows (e.g., mapping CAD layers to GIS schema, handling annotation, eliminating drafting artifacts). Familiarity with local government or utility data models (e.g., common municipal asset schemas, domains, subtype logic). Experience with quality control practices (topology rules, network connectivity checks, and review tracking). Additional qualifications Ability to provide three to four professional references, including at least one current or former supervisor. Ability to successfully pass a background check.
