Department Culture Rec & Tourism-Cultural Dev Opening Date 05/06/2026 Closing Date 5/11/2026 11:59 PM Central About this Job This is a full-time position located at the Capitol Annex Building in Baton Rouge, LA. This position will be the point-of-contact for the Office of Cultural Development's State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). This position will work closely with contractors to convert the current submission system into a new online submission system tied to the GIS, and they will be responsible for maintaining the OCD submittal system as development.Agency Vision:

Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus one year of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR A bachelor's degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field. Evaluate our current GIS data for all SHPO programs in preparation for the development of the new web GIS data submission portal. Work with a contractor to develop the interface and create a functional submission system for internal agency use and external applicants' use. This includes Section 106 requests, archaeological site forms, standing structure forms, cultural resources management forms, and all new submission forms developed for the new online portal. Work with CRT's Information Services division and ESRI to ensure the system is compatible with CRT's internet security requirements. Maintain and correct data issues as they arise. Update software as necessary. Serves as the GIS analyst by entering data into and managing the Louisiana Cultural Resources Map database. Maintains the publicly accessible database that serves all programs managed by DHP and is heavily used by cultural resource development management firms during the Section 106 review process. Issues unique resource ID numbers using the DHP database spreadsheets received from requestors before Louisiana Historic Resource Inventory (LHRI) forms are added to the Map via GIS. Also, incorporates updated LHRI forms into the existing database. Guides staff and constituents to ensure LHRI forms are acceptable. Uses GIS to map points in the database and corrects misplotted points, where identified. Updates existing maps and creates new maps for all existing DHP programs and the Cultural Development program. Works with student workers, when employed, to update the GIS mapping database. When possible, schedule training(s) annually on the ArcGIS or applicable processes to build and maintain knowledge. Maintains up-to-date internal procedural guide for the LHRI survey process and GIS mapping for DHP. Maintains GIS data for all archaeological sites, Cultural Resource Management Surveys, cemeteries, and shipwrecks. Create and manage GIS data, internal GIS applications, and GIS websites for the other Divisions within the Office of Cultural Development, including Arts, CODOFIL, and the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area.
