Competitive Job Summary Serves as fully competent professional in the fields of geographic information systems (GIS), or cartography. Work requires knowledge of the theories and principles of GIS or related specialty area. Highly knowledgeable in one or more related specialized software programs. Assists others in the use of these specialized software programs. Meets with customers to determine their needs. Assists in the development of conceptual and detailed work plans to meet customers' requirements including: database design, digital database construction procedures, QA/QC plan, cost estimates, etc. Develops and implements computer macros and programs using GIS or other specialized software products to improve workflow and quality. Designs, develops, and implements end user applications so that others can use GIS in their work with a minimum amount of training. Responsible for performing spatial, statistical, and/or mathematical analysis to perform GIS analysis, or related activities. Provides assistance to others as they perform these activities. Presents data in form best meeting user requirements. Products may be cartographic, textual, tabular or digital. Designs the final product format so that details and significance are understood by users with a wide range of expertise. Serves as a project leader on GIS projects assisting the Project Engineer and Team Leader in project management, budget, schedule, staffing, quality, and daily supervision of project team. Acts as technical contract monitor of projects performed by or under commercial contract. Develops and presents programs, seminars and training for TVA and outside organizations. Performs other duties as assigned. May require travel inside and outside of the Tennessee Valley. Supervision Received Assignments are given with general guidelines, scope and goals. The work is then completed independently. Unusual or complex work is subject to minimal guidance or review. Written/oral communications Digital cartography Effective team player Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard) Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements B.S. degree in GIS, geography or related field with an emphasis in GIS or related discipline. Demonstrated experience at the scientific level. Professional certification (American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) as a Mapping Scientist preferred.
