Job Description
SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Director of Planning and Development, serves as Geographic Information Systems Technician to the Development Services Department; responsible for creating and maintaining geographic data and for providing GIS technical assistance to City employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides excellent customer service while responding to both internal and external daily mapping requests. Completes GIS data entry, data validation and assists with the maintenance of current GIS databases. Works in an efficient manner with attention to detail and accuracy. Maintains GIS layers used by the department or other departments as needed. Updates digital and physical standard GIS maps for the department and other departments as needed. Assists in providing maps and data for Planning projects. Assists in spatial analysis. Assists users with problem resolution. Documents and troubleshoots problems alone and as a team member. Uses ArcMap and other necessary tools to maintain Geodatabases. Reviews priorities and assignments with staff in a group setting. Works under routine supervision where the supervisor occasionally reviews work to ensure completion. Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance. May be required to input permits, plans, or other documentation on occasion. Manages and troubleshoots the permit software system as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Proficiency in ESRI products and GIS databases. Ability to pay attention to detail to maintain and enter data in a GIS database. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor s degree in GIS, geography, computer science, or a closely related field. Two years of experience utilizing spatial data.
OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
