Job Description
Job Summary:
The Vetro/GIS Technician creates, maintains, and updates Geographic Information in our Vetro Fibermap. They assist Network Design Engineers in analyzing fiber needs, verify as-built information, and record equipment installation details. They work closely with engineering, construction, and splicing teams to keep progress on track and changes communicated across departments.Key Responsibilities:
Help design and optimize fiber routes, verifying capacity for target areas while allowing for future growth.Data Collection and Management:
Collect and integrate geographic data from sources including software, spreadsheets, satellite imagery, construction prints, and field observations.Perform manual data entry of legacy information into spreadsheets and GIS databases.
Maintain GIS databases, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and security, including quality control to correct errors.
Mapping and Visualization:
Create and update maps and visualizations for internal and external use.Record route layouts, equipment locations, and splicing in Vetro (Fiber software, GIS).
Software and Tool Utilization:
Utilize GIS software such as QGIS, Vetro, and other mapping tools.Collaboration and Support:
Work with cross-functional teams to support GIS-related needs; provide technical support/training on GIS tools; stay current on new technologies and best practices.Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Urban Planning, Telecommunications, or related field, or GIS certification/equivalent experience.Experience:
2+ years in telecommunications or fiber internet, focused on network planning, GIS mapping, OSP engineering, or splicing.Experience in cartography, spatial analysis, data management, or database systems.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Preferred:
relational database management, data mapping, systems integration, or mapping software (Vetro, QGIS, ArcGIS, Katapult or similar).Soft Skills:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.Works well independently and on a team, with strong attention to detail.
