Job Description

IT Operations Manager •Holders Washington DC Position Summary The IT Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day technology operations of the firm, ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of all IT systems that support attorneys and staff. This role manages infrastructure, service delivery, cybersecurity practices, and IT support services while maintaining compliance with legal industry standards for confidentiality and data protection. The IT Operations Manager works closely with firm leadership to ensure technology supports business goals and client service excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
IT Infrastructure & Systems Management Manage the firm s IT infrastructure including servers, networks, cloud platforms, storage, and endpoints. Ensure high availability and performance of core systems such as document management systems, email platforms, and practice management applications. Oversee system monitoring, patch management, backups, and disaster recovery planning. Coordinate upgrades, deployments, and system improvements. IT Service Delivery Lead the IT support/helpdesk team and ensure timely resolution of technical issues. Establish and monitor service level agreements (SLAs) for support services. Develop procedures to improve user support and service efficiency. Provide technology support for attorneys, legal assistants, and administrative staff. Security & Compliance Implement and maintain cybersecurity best practices to protect confidential client data. Manage security tools including endpoint protection, firewalls, identity management, and monitoring systems. Ensure compliance with legal industry security standards and client audit requirements. Lead incident response and vulnerability management processes. Vendor & Technology Management Manage relationships with IT vendors, managed service providers, and technology partners. Evaluate and recommend new technology solutions that improve productivity and security. Oversee licensing, contracts, and vendor performance. Project Management Lead IT infrastructure and operations projects including system upgrades, migrations, and implementations. Collaborate with firm leadership to prioritize technology initiatives. Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Team Leadership Supervise and mentor IT staff including system administrators, network engineers, and helpdesk personnel. Develop training and knowledge-sharing programs for the IT team. Foster a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience). 7+ years of IT experience with at least 3 years in IT operations or infrastructure leadership. Experience in a law firm or professional services environment preferred. Strong experience managing enterprise systems, networks, and cloud platforms.
Preferred Certifications:
ITIL CISSP, CISM, or Security+ Microsoft or cloud certifications Key Competencies Leadership and team management Problem-solving and decision-making Strong communication and client service mindset Ability to work in a fast-paced professional services environment Strong understanding of confidentiality and legal data protection
