The Systems Administration Manager is responsible for managing and supporting Georgia College & State University's enterprise IT systems infrastructure, including data centers, cloud resources, and campus-based server and storage systems. Reporting to and collaborating with the Senior Director of IT Infrastructure, this position executes strategic project plans, manages operational budgets, and supports staff development. The Manager oversees the day-to-day implementation and operation of IT systems to ensure services meet the University's needs for functionality, reliability, and performance. This role also coordinates the research and development of IT resources and infrastructure in support of the institution's academic and administrative functions. Management
  • 35%•Provides direction, technical assistance, and expertise to Systems Administration staff in the management of campus data centers, cloud resources, server and storage infrastructure, and related IT systems including Active Directory, authentication tools, and related applications.
  • Takes a hands-on approach to installing, updating, programming, and monitoring system hardware and storage; develops and maintains virtual servers and storage connectivity; oversees authentication technologies; and ensures compliance with data security standards and policies.
  • Manages backup and archive strategies; conducts regular testing of restore capabilities to ensure system effectiveness.
  • Assists in the operation of enterprise IT systems including connectivity management and adds, changes, and decommissioning of systems, while ensuring prompt problem resolution.
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware, software, connectivity, and system problems; replaces defective components as necessary.
  • Monitors system performance to identify needed adjustments and anticipate future changes.
  • Analyzes system logs and identifies potential issues with computer systems.
  • Introduces and integrates new technologies into existing data center environments.
  • Performs routine audits of systems and software.
  • Applies operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
  • Installs and configures new hardware and software.
  • Manages user account information including additions, removals, updates, and password resets.
  • Responds to technical queries and provides end-user assistance.
  • Documents system configuration and performs system performance tuning. Directing
  • 20%•Provides leadership and direction for the Systems Administration unit.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and manages personnel and budgets associated with ongoing operations and IT projects.
  • Identifies, plans, and coordinates service and technology solutions to meet campus needs.
  • Coordinates and manages technology projects with university departments and the University System of Georgia (USG); maintains implementation plans, schedules, status reports, and task assignments within budgetary limits.
  • Oversees information security matters as they relate to IT systems.
  • Hires, manages, and takes necessary supervisory actions to ensure a trained, effective, and efficient Systems Administration workforce. Leadership
  • 20%•Establishes and maintains regular communication with committees and department leaders concerning IT Systems issues and opportunities, as assigned by the CIO.
  • Develops project updates and collaborates with communications resources to disseminate relevant news items.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships between IT staff and university constituencies.
  • Serves on the IT Disaster Recovery Management team.
  • Leads the development, revision, and testing of the Systems Administration components of the University's Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Leads the Systems Administration Disaster Recovery team to ensure restoration of daily operating procedures within planning and documentation parameters. Communication
  • 20%•Supports the IT Leadership team in communication, consultation, and collaboration with academic departments, administration, students, IT personnel, and advisory groups.
  • Participates in the development and revision of the IT Strategic Plan.
  • Develops and ensures adherence to appropriate IT policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to budget development in partnership with the IT Leadership team.
  • Assists in negotiating vendor-provided goods and services.
  • Acts as an expert resource and consultant in partnership with the IT Leadership team.
  • Serves on various Information Technology Governance Committees. Other Duties

Educational Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field. A combination of education and equivalent professional experience will be considered. Required Experience 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in technology roles, including at least 3-5 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity. This position is a pay grade 11. The available salary range is $68,519 to $106,209. Starting salary within this range is based on relevant years of experience.
