Description:
The Director of Technology oversees the school's technology initiatives and assets and provides overall campus leadership, guidance, and vision for all technology-related initiatives, including instructional technology and digital/AI literacy education. They also engineer, implement, monitor, maintain, and administer the Bement School's computer, cloud-based server, and network infrastructure.
Primary Responsibilities:
Hardware and Software (including SaaS) Oversee, maintain, and troubleshoot campus-wide network of school computers, including hardware management consoles such as Apple School Manager, mobile device management (Mosyle), and Google Admin console Responsible for the school's network management and functionality, including backup systems, network security systems, and disaster recovery procedures Research, implement, maintain, and administer all internet systems and services, including switches, firewalls, and content filtering, and wireless access points; Contract with third-party computing services for engineering or project installation as needed Manage and oversee campus-wide email system, documentation, and acceptable use policies Serve as primary contact for major school technology solutions such as Veracross, Magnus Health, CrisisGo, Verkada, and Google Workspace Maintain an accurate inventory of all technology assets (hardware, software, and related materials), as well as check-in/check-out procedures Maintain the hardware replacement schedule and track all warranty information while continuing to establish hardware and software standards, policies, and protocols Maintain software site licenses to ensure compliance with copyright laws Research, evaluate, test, and make recommendations on technology equipment and software purchases, upgrades, and improvements Install, implement, troubleshoot, and maintain printers and copiers Serve as the main liaison for outside vendors relating to data and telecommunications management for campus interface with phone, printer, and computer vendors as needed Administrative Implement and lead the school's technology plan, making recommendations and changes as necessary Collaborate with various academic leaders, including the School's Librarian, in the development and implementation of instructional technology and technology curriculum Ensure the School's IT operation adheres to applicable laws and regulations With the Director of Finance and Operations, develop and administer technology expense and capital budgets Provide ongoing oversight and administrative direction to all ongoing technology projects and initiatives on campus, including promoting and planning user training Keep current with trends and issues in the academic IT industry, including current technologies and pricing Support and Education Provide teachers and students with support and resources to effectively integrate technology into Bement's educational program Provide technical support through training, professional development, and individualized support Conduct basic break/fix on-premises and coordinate with local and national repair vendors for all other repairs Occasionally act as point person for select audiovisual services, including AV set-up for presentations, school assemblies, guest speakers, etc., as needed Cybersecurity Create, monitor, and maintain cybersecurity and endpoint protection policies. Ensure implementation of cybersecurity measures and training Conduct regular audits of cybersecurity policies, including tabletop exercises and incident drills Experience 2-5+ years experience in information technology; experience in educational settings preferred Experience with Google Workspace and/or Google Admin is a plus Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Certifications related to specific technologies are a plus Skills & Knowledge Extensive working knowledge of computer hardware, software, peripherals, and related technologies Knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components for LANs, WANs, and the internet Experience with enterprise back-up, desktop deployment, and policy strategies Proficiency with Apple Mac operating systems Working knowledge of cybersecurity and networking best practices Strong understanding of database systems, cloud computing, and Google Workspace Ability to learn new systems quickly and be able to teach others Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated attention to detail Ability to explain technical jargon to general audiences Experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Strong organizational skills for multitasking, prioritizing responsibilities, and problem-solving. Must be able to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously and under tight time constraints.
