Job Description

This position serves as the lead technical resource for support of the Ellucian Banner system and those systems with which Banner interacts.

The Associate Director participates in the day-to-day management and support of the College's Banner enterprise system (development, training, preproduction and production instances), including development, troubleshooting, backup, restoration, and upgrades. In absence of the Director (ASD), the Associate Director will manage all operations for Application Support and Development. The Associate Director also acts as a trainer and mentor for Programmer Analysts within the College and may be delegated responsibility for the overall direction and management of one or more specific functional areas in ASD. May represent the department on university or State committees. Designated as an essential employee at the New College of Florida. Essential employees provide vital support to the College in the event of an emergency or disaster that results in the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices. Works with other ASD team members and departmental users to gather information about current operating procedures, program needs, objectives, and future needs. Research available tools and technologies to provide innovative solutions to application problems. Analyzes, designs, develops, tests and implements new systems, applications, and enhancements. Participates in maintaining system standards based on industry best practices and College policies. Working with functional departments, schedules and oversees Banner module upgrades. Using industry best practices and widely adopted programming languages creates applications to support the College's administrative departments. Alters programs to increase operating efficiency or adapt to new requirements. Modifies and maintains software programs written by others. Develops test data and/or scripts to test programs using industry best practices. In coordination with team members, it maintains a version control system for administrative programs and reports. Working with team members, develops flow charts and documentation for the technical aspects of the administrative systems. Working with functional users, assists with the creation of training and functional documentation. Works with functional users to define Banner reporting requirements, creates or re-designs reports based on the reporting requirements. Fully utilize server system capabilities to automate processes using shell scripts and UC4 automation software. Provides ad-hoc reporting upon request Resolves help desk tickets related to the ERP system and related interfaces. Analyzes programming problems/errors and determines appropriate solutions. Provides technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs. Works with other IT staff to ensure interfaces are working properly and provides backup support to the members of the User Support Team. Coordinates with other analysts about the creation, maintenance and support of programs, processes and reports. Works with other team members to improve their programming, testing, and software design skills. Trains the trainers within functional departments to make sure these power users have the skills to pass knowledge onto their colleagues. Coordinates with college departments and outside entities such as regional data centers and software support providers for applications including Ellucian Banner, Cardinal, CashNet, Evisions, CBord, APEX, and UC4 (Automic). Other duties as assigned Master's degree in the appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience. Higher Education working with an institution's ERP system; specifically with the Ellucian Banner enterprise system, as well as Oracle databases; SQL; PL/SQL; APEX; UNIX shell scripting; technical writing skills, Argos or other Business Intelligence reporting tool, 4GL or 3GL programming language such as Java, C++, Groovy/Grails, PHP, Visual Basic.
