National Grid is hiring a Manager, Capital Project Delivery Hybrid, local to Waltham, Massachusetts. Job Purpose We are seeking a seasoned professional who is passionate about building the energy infrastructure of the future. The individual will manage a small team focused on securing state highway, roadway, and transit-related permits for electric capital projects. The team will be responsible for understanding the company's current internal permit filing processes, exploring opportunities for cost and schedule efficiencies, and building positive relationships with internal stakeholders as well as permitting staff at select state agencies. This role will support project teams as the subject matter expert on permitting requirements, maintain regular contact with state permitting staff, as well as manage requests for escalation of certain permits from both internal and external stakeholders. Key Accountabilities
  • Provide oversight to ensure high-quality permit applications are filed, paid, tracked and approved in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the collection of information necessary for application submittals, as well as assist with data collection for, and the preparation of, any assessments, reviews, or reports
  • Monitor permit cycle time and identify opportunities for cost and schedule efficiencies
  • Develop and oversee a change management effort to realize process improvements
  • Build a trusted and collaborative relationship with agency staff and attend meetings to identify, track and solve emerging issues
  • Troubleshoot high-value permits when approvals are delayed or need to be expedited
  • Attend internal meetings to understand the scope of project portfolios
  • Ensure compliance with permit conditions and retention of relevant records
Knowledge & Experience Required:
  • Knowledge of agency permitting processes, particularly at the Massachusetts Departments of Transportation and Conservation and Recreation, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, and/or regional rail agencies
  • Technical ability to understand construction plans, detect work zones and identify infrastructure
  • Familiarity with road trenching and paving practices
  • Project management skills and demonstrated history of delivering assigned tasks
  • History of building strong business relationships and consensus across stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal presentation and written communication skills, and the ability to write reports and develop presentations for internal and external senior leaders
  • Good organizational skills and an ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; knowledge of Maximo or other work management software preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
