This role serves as the primary owner for assigned projects and is responsible for ensuring project objectives are met with respect to scope, schedule, budget, quality, and customer expectations. The ideal candidate will possess both an engineering background and strong project management skills, allowing them to effectively communicate with engineers, customers, suppliers, and leadership while driving projects from concept through delivery. Candidates must be comfortable operating in a hands-on, rapidly growing organization where project managers are expected to take ownership, solve problems, and drive execution rather than simply report status. This position is intended to serve as a force multiplier for the engineering organization by coordinating activities, managing risks, maintaining project visibility, and ensuring successful project execution while allowing engineering resources to remain focused on technical design and development activities. Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Accountability Own assigned projects as the primary accountable leader, serving as the single point of responsibility for project performance, execution, schedule, budget, and successful delivery. Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, action-item tracking, risk registers, and execution plans. Lead in creating templates to be used for all projects from concept through testing, customer acceptance, and final delivery. Drive projects from concept through testing, customer acceptance, and final delivery. Coordinate activities across engineering, operations, manufacturing, procurement, testing, and executive leadership. Identify project risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies. Escalate project issues when necessary while maintaining accountability for resolution. Technical Program Management Serve as the primary liaison between customers, suppliers, and internal technical teams. Facilitate discussions regarding technical tradeoffs between cost, schedule, performance, and risk. Support engineering teams by managing project execution activities that do not require direct engineering design work. Participate in design reviews, testing activities, and customer meetings as required. Assist with proposal execution, development efforts, and new product introduction activities. Financial Management & Project Controls Maintain visibility into project budgets, labor spending, material costs, subcontractor expenses, and overall project financial performance. Monitor project expenditures against budgets and forecasts. Review project-related invoices and validate that contracted work, services, and deliverables have been successfully completed prior to approval. Support preparation of project financial reports and executive summaries. Ensure leadership maintains visibility into project status, costs, and projected outcomes. Vendor & Subcontractor Management Manage supplier and subcontractor performance on assigned projects. Establish communication and reporting expectations with external partners. Coordinate project deliverables, schedules, documentation, and acceptance activities. Monitor vendor performance and proactively address issues that may impact project success. Test & Field Activity Coordination Coordinate prototype builds, product demonstrations, qualification testing, and field validation activities. Manage logistics associated with testing and customer evaluations. Ensure testing activities are executed according to project schedules and customer requirements. Coordinate documentation and reporting associated with testing efforts. Reporting & Communication Prepare recurring project status reports, customer updates, and executive presentations. Maintain project records, meeting notes, action items, and decision logs. Provide clear visibility into project health, risks, schedule status, and financial performance. Support monthly reporting requirements and customer deliverables as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline. Minimum 10 years of experience in project management, program management, new product development, engineering, or related technical field. Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional technical projects from initiation through completion. Strong understanding of engineering development processes and product lifecycle management. Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with project scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and reporting tools. Preferred Qualifications Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Microsoft Project Software experience strongly preferred Military or veteran background. Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or government-funded programs. Experience with New Product Development (NPD). Experience supporting rapid prototyping and product commercialization efforts. Experience coordinating engineering test programs and qualification activities. Familiarity with electromechanical systems, renewable energy systems, or industrial equipment. Travel Occasional travel to customer sites, vendors, testing facilities, trade shows, or field locations as required. Work Location This position is expected to be primarily office-based to facilitate collaboration with engineering, operations, and project teams. Flexible work arrangements may be considered based on business needs, demonstrated performance, and management approval. What Success Looks Like The successful candidate will: Drive projects to completion on schedule and within budget. Provide leadership with consistent project visibility and reliable reporting. Reduce administrative burden on engineering resources. Improve coordination between customers, vendors, and internal teams. Increase project execution capacity and enable the organization to support additional programs and contracts. Establish themselves as the accountable owner for assigned programs and a trusted leader across the organization.
