JOB SUMMARY
The Technology & Independence Coordinator supports implementation, deployment, and ongoing use of Frontier Community Services' remote monitoring technology for older adults. The position works primarily from the FCS office and travels regularly to participant homes and community locations to assess technology and connectivity needs; install, configure, test, and troubleshoot tablets, wearable devices, smart-home safety equipment, wellness-monitoring devices, hotspots, and related technology; and provide individualized instruction to participants with varying levels of comfort and experience with technology. The Coordinator also assists with establishing and maintaining the centralized remote monitoring hub at the main office and works collaboratively with FCS leadership, Procern, PNC-IT, technology vendors, caregivers, and project partners to ensure devices, connectivity, systems, security, and workflows function effectively. This is a technology support and implementation position and does not provide Direct Support Professional services, personal care, medication administration, transfers, or other hands-on caregiving.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Technology Support & Troubleshooting
- Strong practical ability to configure, connect, test, troubleshoot, and support tablets, smartphones, wearable devices, hotspots, Wi-Fi, smart-home equipment, remote monitoring devices, and related consumer technology.
- Digital Coaching & Adult Learning
- Ability to teach technology patiently and respectfully to older adults with varying levels of digital literacy, using plain language, repetition, demonstration, visual supports, and hands-on practice.
- Person-Centered Communication
- Ability to listen to participant goals and preferences and adapt technology and teaching approaches to support independence rather than creating additional barriers.
- Remote Monitoring Systems
- Ability to learn and support remote monitoring dashboards, wellness check-in tools, alert workflows, device management, participant engagement features, and associated documentation.
- Connectivity Problem Solving
- Ability to identify common Wi-Fi, cellular, hotspot, device-pairing, charging, account-access, and connectivity problems and determine appropriate solutions or escalation pathways.
- Technical Collaboration
- Ability to work effectively with Procern, PNC-IT, technology vendors, and FCS staff and to distinguish issues that can be resolved independently from those requiring escalation to contracted IT or vendor support.
- Privacy & Security
- Working knowledge of appropriate privacy, confidentiality, password, access-control, device-security, and information-security practices when supporting technology in participant homes and FCS systems.
- Organization & Documentation
- Ability to maintain accurate device inventories, deployment records, configuration information, service notes, troubleshooting records, participant training documentation, and project tracking information.
- Independent Field Work
- Ability to plan and complete local travel, work independently in participant homes and community settings, assess environmental or connectivity barriers, and communicate promptly when additional support is needed.
- Professional Judgment
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries, respect participant choice and privacy, recognize concerns outside the scope of the position, and communicate safety or wellness concerns through established FCS protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with implementation of the Connected Independence remote monitoring initiative and support deployment of technology packages to enrolled older adults.
- Work primarily from the FCS office while traveling regularly throughout the Kenai Peninsula to participant homes and community locations for technology assessment, installation, training, troubleshooting, replacement, and follow-up.
- Assess participant technology, connectivity, accessibility, and usability needs and identify practical solutions consistent with the approved project scope and participant preferences.
- Install, configure, connect, test, and support tablets, wearable devices, fall-detection technology, smart-home safety devices, wellness-monitoring equipment, hotspots, charging equipment, and other approved technology.
- Assist with procurement, preparation, configuration, deployment, tracking, replacement, and recovery of participant technology packages and related accessories.
- Assist with establishing, configuring, testing, and maintaining the centralized remote monitoring hub and dashboard at the FCS main office.
- Support development and testing of remote monitoring workflows, including participant enrollment, device assignment, daily wellness check-ins, engagement monitoring, alerts, escalation pathways, and follow-up processes.
- Provide individualized, hands-on technology instruction to older adults and caregivers using clear, respectful, plain-language teaching methods appropriate to each person's learning style and level of experience.
- Teach participants to use approved technology for wellness check-ins, communication, social connection, transportation resources, appointments, food and prescription access, community resources, medical portal links, and other project-approved functions.
- Develop or adapt simple participant instructions, visual guides, checklists, troubleshooting resources, and other digital-literacy materials that support continued independent use of technology.
- Provide follow-up coaching and technical assistance when participants encounter difficulty, technology changes, equipment is replaced, or additional training is needed.
- Identify and troubleshoot common device, application, connectivity, account-access, charging, pairing, and user-interface issues and document actions taken.
- Escalate network, cybersecurity, infrastructure, system-level, or vendor-specific issues to Procern, PNC-IT, the appropriate technology vendor, or FCS leadership rather than making unauthorized changes to agency infrastructure.
- Work collaboratively with Procern, PNC-IT, FCS leadership, technology vendors, and project partners regarding hardware, software, connectivity, security, system access, dashboard functionality, troubleshooting, and implementation needs.
- Support staff and caregiver training on approved technology platforms, devices, workflows, and appropriate troubleshooting procedures.
- Maintain accurate inventory and deployment records for devices, accessories, participant assignments, replacements, repairs, returns, connectivity services, and other project equipment.
- Document participant technology setup, training, follow-up, troubleshooting, connectivity barriers, equipment changes, and resolution of technical issues in approved agency systems.
- Monitor device functionality and system connectivity and assist in identifying technology-related issues that may interfere with participant engagement or project operations.
- Support established alert and communication workflows by ensuring technology-generated information is routed appropriately; communicate participant safety or wellness concerns to designated program staff without independently providing clinical assessment.
- Participate in testing and evaluation of technology solutions and document usability, reliability, accessibility, participant experience, connectivity performance, and limitations to support project evaluation and future purchasing decisions.
- Assist with collection of project information related to technology adoption, participant engagement, connectivity, device performance, digital literacy, and other approved performance measures.
- Participate in project meetings, quality-improvement reviews, training, vendor demonstrations, and development of the regional remote monitoring hub framework.
- Protect participant confidentiality and comply with FCS privacy, information-security, safety, documentation, and technology-use requirements.
- Maintain equipment and work areas in a safe and organized condition and follow appropriate procedures when transporting technology to and from participant homes.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the purpose and responsibilities of the position.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
- Maintain professional communication with participants, families, caregivers, coworkers, contractors, vendors, and community partners.
- Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring technology barriers, training needs, workflow concerns, and opportunities to simplify participant use.
- Represent FCS professionally during home visits, community activities, vendor interactions, and project meetings.
- Participate in required agency orientation, training, grant-related training, and technology-specific learning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent sitting, walking, speaking, listening, handling/fingering, and use of computers, tablets, mobile devices, and other technology equipment.
- Regular local driving and movement between the FCS office, participant residences, and community locations.
- Frequent handling, carrying, connecting, positioning, and demonstrating small electronic devices, chargers, hotspots, wearables, and related equipment.
- Occasional bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, or working near furniture or household outlets when safely positioning or connecting approved equipment.
- Occasionally lift and carry equipment or supply containers up to 30 pounds.
- This position does not routinely perform participant transfers, personal care, medication administration, or other hands-on caregiving tasks.

HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Maintain practices and behaviors reasonably necessary to support a safe and healthful working environment in the office, during travel, and in participant homes.
- Follow FCS policies and procedures related to home visits, infection prevention, incident reporting, confidentiality, technology security, and workplace safety.
- Position is subject to applicable background check requirements.
- Complete required agency orientation, training, and any role-specific health, safety, privacy, or technology-security requirements.
- When driving is an assigned job duty, must be at least 21 years of age and maintain a valid Alaska driver license, acceptable driving record, and proof of automobile insurance in accordance with agency and insurance requirements.
- Use sound judgment regarding environmental hazards, unsafe conditions, animals, weather, road conditions, or other risks encountered during field visits and promptly communicate concerns through established channels.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Postsecondary education, technical training, certification, or equivalent experience in computer support, information technology, assistive technology, electronics, telecommunications, education, human services, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated experience configuring, troubleshooting, or supporting consumer technology such as computers, tablets, smartphones, wearable devices, Wi-Fi, hotspots, smart-home devices, or similar equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, coach, or assist individuals who have limited experience or confidence using technology.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish respectful working relationships with older adults, caregivers, coworkers, contractors, vendors, and community partners.
- Ability to communicate technical information in clear, nontechnical language and adapt instruction to different learning styles and abilities.
- Ability to work independently, organize field visits, manage equipment, maintain accurate documentation, and follow through on unresolved technical issues.
- Experience working with older adults, people with disabilities, rural communities, remote monitoring, telehealth, accessibility technology, or assistive technology preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the local service area and work in participant homes and community settings.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately safeguard participant, employee, and agency information.
SUPERVISION AND COLLABORATION
The Technology & Independence Coordinator is supervised by the Aging & Independence Director and works collaboratively with the Director of Integrity & Operations, Executive Director, Procern, PNC-IT, technology vendors, project evaluators, caregivers, and other FCS staff involved in the Connected Independence initiative. The Coordinator is expected to independently resolve routine user-support and device issues within the scope of the position and appropriately escalate infrastructure, cybersecurity, clinical, safety, or programmatic concerns.Pay:
$28.85- $31.
