Objective of the

Job:

This position is an automation technician responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, improving, and maintaining the level 1 automation system in the Melt Shop area of the Big River Steel facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and "where applicable" Responsible Steel requirements are followed. 2) Responsible for computer systems, PLCs, control circuits, communication systems, I/O field devices, VFD drives/motors, measurement systems, and other control equipment. 3) Coordinate BRS, contractor, and vendor activities to install or modify electrical equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, and other specifications. 4) Work directly with all maintenance and operations personnel in a fast-paced environment to help develop a safety focused, productive roll mill team, support electrical teammates to help maintain a positive, and efficient work environment focused on safety and reliability. 5) Train others in the electrical department on the function and maintenance of the level 1 systems. 6) Manage the design, development, implementation, and procurement of hardware and/or software for level 1 improvement projects and provide support for other disciplines' projects

Qualifications:

1) Demonstrate safety focus and willingness to proactively apply it in a team environment. 2) Quality and detail oriented with superior problem solving and communication skills. 3) Highly motivated, self-directed, hands-on approach, and willing to put in extra hours or on-call support. 4) Minimum 5 years of automation experience in the metals industry (hot rolling and casting experience preferred) 5) Previous experience with

NFPA 70E

safe work practices. 6) Experience interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics. 7) Advanced PLC programing (Rockwell preferred), regulator tuning, data acquisition/analysis, motor and drives control, communication systems, and HMI experience. 8) Computer/electrical degree or equivalent training is required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The environment is typical for a steel mill production area, with extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and dusty/greasy areas. Scheduled work hours are day shift Monday through Friday.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not supervise others.
