The Core Network Services Operations team keeps Apple's world-class MPLS backbone network running smoothly and efficiently. We are a global community of engineers who operate the diverse technology, protocol, and vendor stack that interconnects all facets of Apple's network at a scale that is second to none. We're seeking an enthusiastic and passionate person to join a dynamic and exciting team within Apple's Global Networking Services. You will be skilled in cross-organizational collaboration, liaising with our internal teams and external service providers to operate and maintain the network infrastructure. In addition, you will be expected to develop and maintain clear documentation and procedures associated with operations and known issues. This position provides the opportunity to operate a cutting-edge, worldwide, multi-vendor network. DescriptionIn this fast paced role, you will provide front line support for Apple's MPLS backbone network; its extensive DC, Edge, and Internet connectivity; and its underlying metro and long-haul optical transport networks to address a wide variety of business challenges. You will be comfortable in a dynamic environment with the ability to multi-task and provide operational support to various operational teams and implementation groups within Apple to resolve critical network related issues.
This position requires a collaborative teammate with excellent written and verbal communication skills who will enjoy working with others around the globe to maintain the networking infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include working on tickets and break fixes, taking escalations from and mentoring junior team members, developing network automation playbooks, maintaining and upgrading existing networks to current standards, coordinating peering expansions, and contributing to technical and procedural documentation.
In this role you will obsess over minute details and drive operational excellence in every aspect of your work to deliver the best possible customer experience. Responsibilities:
Provide front-line support for Apple's MPLS backbone network, DC, Edge, and Internet connectivity, as well as metro and long-haul optical transport networks to resolve critical network-related issues.
Work on tickets and break fixes, take escalations, mentor junior team members, and develop network automation playbooks to enhance operational efficiency.
Maintain and upgrade existing networks to current standards, coordinate peering expansions, and contribute to technical and procedural documentation.
Collaborate with global teams to maintain networking infrastructure, ensuring operational excellence and delivering the best possible customer experience.
Utilize strong interpersonal skills to engage in open and active discussions, and follow through on details to support various operational teams and implementation groups within Apple.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experienceCisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIP, or equivalent experienceFlexibility to work early morning or late night shift patterns requiredHands-on experience with Cisco, Arista, Juniper, and/or Nokia carrier-grade routers and their respective network operating systems is preferredUnderstanding of peering and/or transit networks is a bonusExperience with configuration management and automation technologies such as Ansible, Python, Go, etc is advantageous.
Minimum QualificationsA minimum of 3 years of network operations experience in a large scale enterprise or service provider environmentExperience evaluating and managing outages to business critical infrastructureAbility to maintain composure and customer-service focus in stressful and ambiguous situationsSelf-starter, self-motivated, self-directed, self-sufficientWorking knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP and various IGP protocolsProficiency in macOS, Linux, and/or other variations of UNIX operating systemsExperience working in large scale network environments with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management processesPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $127,700 and $232,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
