Vendor portals change without warning, authenticated sessions break, exports quietly start returning the wrong thing, and a script that ran perfectly last week starts failing at 2 a.m. You are the person who notices before the customer does, traces the problem to its root, and gets the pipeline healthy again. You think in terms of "what changed, and what does that tell me?" — and you're never satisfied with a green checkmark you can't explain. What you'll do Own the integrity of our data retrieval end to end — from authenticated login through export to the moment clean data lands in our system. Audit our own scripts screen by screen. Walk the automated flow the way a user would, spot the step where reality diverged from what the code assumed, and document exactly where it broke. Handle authentication flows for authorized access , including multi-factor and session-management logic, so customer logins stay reliable as vendor sites evolve. Reverse-engineer breakage fast. When a vendor redesigns a page or changes an export format, diagnose it, adapt the approach, and coordinate the fix. Build early-warning instincts and tooling — validation checks, anomaly alerts, spot-audits — so silent failures and bad data get caught at the source, not three reports downstream. Turn edge cases into playbooks. The weird one-off you solved today should be a documented, repeatable process tomorrow. What we're looking for A genuine investigator's mindset: relentless curiosity, comfort with ambiguity, and an instinct that something's "off" before you can prove it. Two-steps-ahead thinking — you anticipate where a fragile process will break next and harden it before it does. Obsessive attention to detail. You'll catch the one column that's subtly wrong in a file of 40,000 rows. Comfort reading and debugging automation/scraping logic (Python, browser automation, or similar), even if you're not the one who originally wrote it. Solid SQL and data-validation chops; you can tell the difference between "the data is weird" and "the data is wrong." Calm, methodical adaptability. Things break; you don't panic, you triage. Nice to have Background in QA, fraud/anomaly analysis, systems reliability, or auditing. History of building internal tooling or monitoring that made a fragile process robust. How you'll know you're crushing it Problems get caught upstream instead of surfacing in customer reports. The scripts you watch over fail less, and when they do fail, they tell us why. And the tribal knowledge in your head keeps turning into documented process the rest of the team can run.
