Position Title Senior Network Engineer Schedule Full time contract engagement, typically aligned with standard business hours, 8AM-5PM EST. Occasional after hours work may be required for maintenance windows, cutovers, or production changes. Location Onsite in Tallahassee, Florida Position Summary We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support the planning, deployment, troubleshooting, modernization, and operational improvement of network infrastructure within a single-client internal environment. This role is focused on enterprise networking, secure access, firewall dependencies, VPN replacement, segmentation, routing, switching, wireless, and network-related project delivery. The Senior Network Engineer will work closely with internal server, security, and infrastructure teams where systems intersect with connectivity, access, and security architecture, but the primary ownership of this role sits within the network engineering function. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience supporting complex network environments, coordinating production changes, troubleshooting high-impact connectivity issues, documenting network designs, and serving as a senior escalation point for network-related incidents and projects. Key Responsibilities Network Engineering and Infrastructure Support Design, deploy, support, and optimize network infrastructure within an internal enterprise environment Support routing, switching, VLANs, WAN connectivity, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, and secure access technologies Troubleshoot complex network issues involving connectivity, latency, packet loss, access, routing, firewall rules, and application reachability Assist with architecture validation, change planning, and deployment execution for network infrastructure projects Support network lifecycle initiatives including upgrades, migrations, replacements, standardization, and performance improvements Routing, Switching, and Connectivity Configure, support, and troubleshoot enterprise switching and routing environments Support VLAN design, trunking, inter-VLAN routing, subnetting, IP addressing, and related network segmentation needsAssist with WAN, SD-WAN, site-to-site VPN, remote access VPN, and hybrid connectivity requirements Support network designs involving redundancy, failover, high availability, and resilient site connectivity Participate in troubleshooting across LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewall, and cloud-connected network paths Firewall, Secure Access, and Network Security Support firewall policy review, access rule validation, NAT, VPN dependencies, and network security controls Support deployment of Cisco Secure Access as part of VPN replacement and secure connectivity initiativesAssist with planning and implementation of secure access policies, identity-aware access, segmentation, and connectivity requirements Coordinate changes involving authentication, access control, firewall dependencies, and secure network paths Participate in evaluation and implementation planning for privileged access management and other access control solutions as they relate to network security Wireless, Remote Access, and User Connectivity Support wireless networking, remote access, and secure connectivity requirements across the internal environmentTroubleshoot user and site connectivity issues involving wireless, VPN, firewall, DNS, DHCP, routing, and authentication dependencies Assist with wireless and access layer improvements, documentation, and operational handoff Help ensure network access solutions are secure, supportable, and aligned with business needs Cross-Functional Engineering Collaboration Work closely with internal server, security, and infrastructure teams on projects where network connectivity, access, compute, and security systems intersect Coordinate infrastructure changes that involve firewall rules, DNS, DHCP, certificate dependencies, identity platforms, server access, or cloud connectivity Provide network engineering input into system deployments, security platform rollouts, and infrastructure modernization efforts Support deployment or removal of security tools where network access, traffic flow, or firewall dependencies are involved Help ensure infrastructure designs are practical, supportable, and aligned across network, server, and security teams Project Delivery and Network Modernization Support internal network infrastructure initiatives and assigned project work Contribute to project planning, technical execution, documentation, validation, and transition to support Provide technical input into network design decisions, implementation sequencing, dependencies, and risk identification Document network diagrams, IP schemes, VLAN plans, firewall dependencies, deployment procedures, troubleshooting steps, and operational runbooks Help improve network standards, repeatability, supportability, and long-term maintainability Operational Support and Escalation Act as a senior technical resource for complex network incidents and project escalations Perform root cause analysis and support remediation of high-impact network and access issues Support maintenance windows, system cutovers, network migrations, and production deployment validation Partner with internal teams to reduce recurring network issues and improve operational handoff Provide escalation support for issues involving connectivity, firewalls, VPN, routing, switching, wireless, DNS, DHCP, and secure access Required Experience and Skills 5 or more years of network engineering experience in enterprise, government, education, healthcare, corporate, or other internal IT environments Strong experience with routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, VPNs, firewalls, wireless, and secure access technologies Strong troubleshooting skills across LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, firewall, DNS, DHCP, and cloud-connected network paths Experience supporting network infrastructure upgrades, migrations, cutovers, and production changes Experience working with firewall policies, NAT, access control, VPN dependencies, and segmentation requirements Ability to collaborate with server, security, and infrastructure teams on integrated technical designs Ability to document network designs, dependencies, implementation steps, and support procedures Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly Preferred Qualifications Experience with Cisco Secure Access or similar secure access / VPN replacement platforms Experience with Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, Palo Alto, SonicWall, Aruba, or similar enterprise network platforms Experience with SD-WAN, SASE, NAC, Zero Trust Network Access, or identity-aware access solutions Experience with network segmentation, firewall migration, VPN replacement, or secure remote access projects Experience with network monitoring, packet capture, log review, and performance troubleshooting tools Familiarity with cloud networking concepts, including Azure networking, VPN gateways, private connectivity, and hybrid access Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, federation, DNS, DHCP, PKI, and certificate-related dependencies Familiarity with VMware NSX, VMware Horizon, Nutanix, or server infrastructure where network integration is required Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, or configuration management tools Prior experience supporting internal enterprise network environments preferred
