Our site in Billerica, MA is seeking an Automation & Controls Engineering Co-Op to join our team for the Spring 2027 season. This assignment is intended to be 6 months in duration. Working under the direct guidance and mentorship of a Lead Automation & Controls Engineer, you will gain hands-on experience with industrial control systems in a high-tech manufacturing environment. This co-op provides exposure to real-world projects involving PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, equipment commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives while contributing to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.What You'll Do:
Assist the Lead Engineer with the design, integration, and documentation of automation systems and controls. Support PLC logic development, debugging, and optimization (primarily Allen-Bradley/Rockwell) and HMI interface updates to improve cycle time, reliability, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Help perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for automation-related downtime, quality issues, and system failures under supervision. Participate in the development and testing of automated inspection systems using vision, sensors, and gauging. Support system commissioning, validation, and acceptance testing activities Assist with risk assessments, safety validations, and compliance checks. Troubleshoot control systems, document findings, and implement recommended diagnostics or improvements under direction. Maintain accurate project documentation, electrical schematics, and software version control. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, maintenance, quality) and learn best practices for standardizing automation platforms. Stay engaged with emerging automation technologies and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.What We Seek:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Strong interest in industrial automation, controls, and manufacturing systems. Basic familiarity with PLC programming concepts (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred) andHMI/SCADA
systems through coursework, labs, or prior projects/internships. Fundamental understanding of industrial networks, electrical systems, and safety practices. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting. Ability to work full-time onsite for the duration of the co-op term. Desired Major(s) &Graduation Year:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls/Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Graduating 2027 - 2028Eligibility:
Must be a currently enrolled student Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in January through June Must be familiar with the university's requirements to participate in a co-op program Entegris is not currently hiring candidates for co-ops/internships who will need, now or at any time in the future, Entegris sponsorship through the H1-B lottery.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the ability to work in office, laboratory, manufacturing, and cleanroom environments. The individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods. Occasional bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and climbing may be required. The role also requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleanroom garments, and safely work around manufacturing and automation equipment while following all safety and cleanroom protocols.WHY WORK AT ENTEGRIS?
