To apply please complete the application available found our website: www.co.marquette.mi.us General Summary Under the direction of the IT Director, the Senior Systems & Network Engineer is a senior technical resource within Information Technology and supports day-to-day operation, maintenance, and security of Marquette County's network, server, cloud, and endpoint infrastructure. The role mentors junior staff, oversees department staff, coordinates technical work, and partners with the County's contracted cybersecurity and managed service provider. This is a hands-on senior position: performing engineering and end-user support while providing technical guidance to the team. Essential Functions 1. Provide day-to-day direction and supervision to junior IT staff, including assigning and reviewing work, setting priorities, and coaching on technical standards. 2. Participates in onboarding, performance evaluation, and professional development planning. 3. Leads junior IT staff in creating and maintaining technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and the IT knowledge base. 4. Assists in monitoring budget expenditures throughout the year to ensure they conform to expenditure guidelines. Participates in planning and budgeting for future expenditures by monitoring, and maintaining the technology fund. 5. Installs, configures, and maintains network infrastructure including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless, LAN, WAN, and VPN. 6. Maintains on-premises servers, virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V), storage, and backup platforms. Performs capacity planning and lifecycle management. 7. Administers Microsoft 365, including Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and endpoint compliance policies. 8. Maintains telecommunications including VoIP, conferencing, and mobile devices. 9. Maintains network and system monitoring. Follows a documented schedule of log and alert reviews. 10. Operates within the County's security framework and helps enforce it in coordination with the contracted cybersecurity and managed service provider. 11. Supports County Local Agency Security Officer (LASO) to maintain identity and access management, MFA, privileged access controls, and endpoint compliance in line with Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy. 12. Maintains and participates in testing of the County's disaster recovery and incident response plans, including tabletop exercises. 13. Documents changes through the change management process. Maintains current network diagrams, system documentation, and asset inventory. 14. Maintains strict confidentiality of all systems, credentials, and data accessed in the course of duties, including CJIS, personnel, and other sensitive records; accesses such information only as required to perform assigned work. 15. Complies with all County confidentiality policies, data-handling standards, and applicable privacy laws. 16. Installs, maintains, and upgrades workstations, printers, peripherals, and standard software. Resolved escalated end-user issues. 17. Supports new hires and departures, including provisioning, de-provisioning, and access reviews. Maintains confidentiality during workplace investigations and terminations. 18. Performs or coordinates building wiring as needed for terminals, printers, PCs, and related equipment. 19. Serves as the County's primary technical liaison to software, hardware, and service vendors. Manages installations, upgrades, and troubleshooting. 20. Coordinates with the County's cybersecurity and managed service provider on shared operations, security reviews, and project work. 21. Maintains an accurate inventory of all computer hardware, software, and supplies. 22. Communicates emergency procedures and directs system shutdowns during severe weather, power outages, fires, or other incidents. 23. Other duties as assigned. • Responds to critical incidents within agreed upon timeframes during business hours and within agreed on-call windows outside business hours.
• Documents work in the County's ticketing system within one business day of completion.
• Provides a regular written status update covering completed work, in-flight projects, and risks.
• Maintains current network diagrams, asset inventory, and runbooks. Reviews and updates documentation at minimum quarterly.
• Mentors junior staff and shares knowledge through documented procedures and team check-ins.
• Meets targets for patch compliance, backup success rate, and system uptime.

Employment Qualifications Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications (or equivalent):

• CompTIA CySA+
• CCNA
• VMware VCP-DCV, or a comparable Hyper-V virtualization certification
• Microsoft MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator) or MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator
• ITIL 4 Foundation

Veeam VMCE Experience:

Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in network and systems administration, including at least two years in a senior, lead, or equivalent capacity. Demonstrated hands-on expertise required with enterprise networking hardware, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V), and enterprise backup platforms, including experience designing, implementing, and securing infrastructure across multiple sites.

• Ability to train and assist other department staff to support day-to-day tasks.
• Strong analysis and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as perform assignments with limited direction.

Pay:

$36.39 - $44.40 per hour
