The Cloud Engineer - Network will lead networking initiatives and ensure network devices align with applicable
NIST 800-53
security controls. This role requires expertise in traditional and cloud-based networking, Terraform infrastructure as code, network security, monitoring, and infrastructure operations. The position will support corporate WAN/LAN infrastructure, AWS cloud networking components, firewalls, wireless networks, load balancers, web application firewalls, vendor connections, and related systems. The Cloud Engineer - Network will serve as a primary resource for network outages, root-cause analysis, long-term remediation, documentation, and special projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead complex assignments involving network and telecommunications architecture. Troubleshoot complex network issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions. Configure and manage firewalls, including application-layer controls and site-to-site VPN connections. Design and implement network segmentation and micro-segmentation strategies for critical servers in virtual and public cloud environments. Deploy, secure, monitor, and optimize wireless infrastructure for laptops and mobile devices. Implement, monitor, and protect external vendor connections using site-to-site VPN, FTP, and other approved methods. Manage load balancers and web application firewall technologies to support website security, availability, and redundancy. Develop network monitoring, alerting, performance reporting, and availability measurement practices using third-party tools. Schedule and oversee configuration backups, maintenance, and security patching. Maintain thorough network documentation and provide other engineers with the information and skills needed to support the environment. Lead new network initiatives and coordinate projects from planning through completion. Improve networking processes, including ruleset nomenclature, organization, procedures, and operational standards. Partner with security personnel to implement network security plans and maintain compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, policies, and best practices. Ensure network devices meet applicable
NIST 800-53
controls. Support AWS cloud migration activities in collaboration with cloud engineering resources. Maintain established service levels and analyze trends related to network service delivery. Forecast resource needs using capacity-planning tools and provide recommendations for budget planning. Evaluate and negotiate hardware, software, and service purchases with vendors. Provide infrastructure support and contribute to special projects. Stay current on emerging technologies and complete relevant training. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and report onsite when necessary to address data center issues.
Qualifications:
Minimum of seven years of experience supporting network infrastructure in a 24x7 environment. Network certification preferred, such as PCNSA, PCNSE, CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE. Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent military experience preferred. Experience leading project initiatives, supporting regulatory compliance programs, and presenting to senior management. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting next-generation firewalls; Palo Alto experience preferred. Experience with application visibility, threat prevention, network security mitigation strategies, and site-to-site VPN connections. Experience supporting remote-access solutions; RSA and GlobalProtect experience preferred. Experience maintaining and managing telecommunications and fax technologies. Experience monitoring network performance and maintaining system availability and reliability. Hands-on knowledge of load balancers, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, TACACS+, BGP, and AWS networking technologies. Experience hardening network equipment to corporate security standards. Experience with Cisco switches and routers, Palo Alto firewalls, NetScaler MPX, Akamai, Terraform, wireless networking, WAF technologies, and AWS cloud services. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with urgency, focus, and discipline. Customer-focused, flexible, resilient, collaborative, and results-oriented. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to stay current with rapidly changing technology. Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve complex problems calmly, effectively, and quickly. Self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision. Ability to work outside normal business hours or sustained off-shift hours as needed. Occasional travel may be required. Additional supported technologies may include Zscaler, Windows Server, Windows 11 Enterprise, VMware infrastructure, Pure Storage, Active Directory, Cohesity Backup, Exchange, SQL, SentinelOne, SharePoint Online, Varonis, and ServiceNow.
