This role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in IP/MPLS networking, fiber optics, SONET migration, Cisco infrastructure, telecommunications engineering, and mission-critical communications systems . The selected candidate will help architect and modernize resilient communications environments supporting operational technology (OT), enterprise IT, cloud systems, remote telemetry, cybersecurity, and digital transformation initiatives. The position is hybrid with periodic travel to client sites, field facilities, and project locations across California. IP/MPLS MPLS-TP
Fiber optic transport DWDM systems Microwave communicationsSD-WAN SONET/TDM
migration LTE/5G and wireless backhaul Enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure Secure remote connectivity solutions Develop migration strategies from legacySONET/TDM
systems to modern IP/MPLS-based architectures.Create and maintain:
Network diagrams Fiber route documentation Port assignments Synchronization plans Rack elevations Telecommunications engineering packages Configure, test, and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, and telecommunications equipment. Support secure network segmentation and cybersecurity compliance initiatives. Infrastructure Planning & Systems Analysis Analyze system requirements related to: Reliability Scalability Latency Redundancy Disaster recovery Operational resiliency Evaluate existing infrastructure and develop modernization recommendations. Collaborate with cloud, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to ensure network readiness for hybrid cloud and mission-critical systems. Assist in capacity planning and performance optimization initiatives. Project Management & Execution Lead telecommunications and infrastructure projects ranging from $50K to $2M+ in value. Coordinate project scope, schedule, procurement, budgeting, risk management, and implementation activities. Support multi-site deployments and infrastructure upgrades.Coordinate with:
Clients Construction teams Vendors Carriers Utility providers Internal engineering staff Develop bills of materials, procurement lists, implementation schedules, and back-out plans. Provide engineering oversight during deployment, testing, cutover, and project closeout. Documentation & Compliance Produce and maintain: Engineering job packages Standard operating procedures Network topology diagrams Technical implementation documentation Construction support packages Asset inventories As-built documentation Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, client requirements, and industry best practices. Participate in development of engineering standards and operational procedures. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in: Telecommunications Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science Information Technology Or related technical discipline 5+ years of hands-on telecommunications and/or network engineering experience Strong experience with: IP/MPLS networking Cisco routing and switching Fiber optic systemsSONET/TDM
environments WAN/LAN architecture Experience with Linux and/or Unix operating systems Understanding of network monitoring and management systems Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously Valid California driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed Preferred Qualifications Experience with utility, energy, transportation, municipal, or critical infrastructure telecommunications systems Experience supporting: SCADA Telemetry Industrial networking Operational Technology (OT) environments Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks andNERC/CIP
