Job Description

Senior Voice Engineer - Cisco CUCM to Webex Calling Migration Nascient Networks | Los Angeles, CA (hybrid - remote engineering with on-site cutovers in Long Beach) Job type: Contract-to-hire, full-time
Compensation:
$75/hour About Nascient Networks Nascient Networks is a Los Angeles-based low-voltage contracting and managed IT services firm. We handle structured cabling, AV, access control, fire alarm, telecom, network engineering, and managed services for enterprise and public-sector clients. Our clients are stretched thin and tasked with the impossible, and they depend on us to deliver. We work on technology, but we work with people, and that's who we care about. The role We've been engaged by a Southern California municipality to migrate users from Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) to Webex Calling, starting with a 100-user pilot site and expanding across roughly 120 sites over time. You'll be the lead engineer on this program: designing the Webex Calling environment, building the CUCM-to-Webex coexistence layer, and creating the repeatable playbook we use for every site that follows. This is hands-on work with real ownership. You'll set the technical direction, do the configuration yourself, run cutovers, and write the documentation that lets the next site go faster than the last one. What you'll do Lead discovery of the existing CUCM environment: users, DNs, dial plan, SIP trunks, and device inventory Design and configure
Webex Control Hub:
organization, locations, e911 dispatchable location, user and number provisioning via bulk import Design and configure a Cisco Local Gateway (CUBE) to connect the client's existing carrier SIP trunk to Webex Calling Build CUCM ↔ Webex Calling coexistence: SIP trunk between platforms, route patterns, and dial-plan changes so migrated and non-migrated sites reach each other cleanly during a phased rollout Stage and provision Cisco 8851 MPP phones; verify firmware and registration Plan and execute site cutovers, including test plans for inbound/outbound calling, 911, voicemail, and interop with CUCM Provide hypercare after each cutover and resolve day-2 issues Deliver end-user training sessions and quick-reference materials Produce as-built documentation and a per-site migration runbook that field technicians can follow Decommission migrated resources on CUCM Coordinate with the client's IT staff, the carrier, and Nascient's project manager and field team What we're looking for Required 7+ years in enterprise voice/UC engineering, with at least 3 years hands-on with Cisco CUCM (v11+) and at least 1 year with Webex Calling Demonstrated experience configuring Cisco CUBE as a Webex Calling Local Gateway (registration- or certificate-based trunking) Deep understanding of
SIP:
trunking, dial plans, digit manipulation, codecs, SRTP/TLS, and troubleshooting with packet captures Experience running CUCM and Webex Calling in coexistence during a phased migration Cisco MPP phone provisioning and firmware management (8800 series) Ability to write clear technical documentation and runbooks that other people can execute Comfortable leading customer-facing cutovers, training sessions, and status meetings Valid driver's license and ability to be on-site in the Long Beach area for cutovers Preferred Cisco CCNP Collaboration or equivalent Experience with public-sector or municipal clients Familiarity with e911 requirements (Kari's Law, RAY BAUM's Act) in cloud calling Experience with Frontier or similar
ILEC SIP
trunking Webex Calling APIs or scripting for bulk provisioning Exposure to Webex Contact Center, Webex Devices, or Control Hub analytics Who you are Dependable. People count on you to get the job done, and you do. Empathetic. You take the time to understand the client's pain points before you propose a fix. Not a yes-person. You bring solutions, push back when something won't work, and say so constructively. Not starry-eyed. Hope isn't a strategy; you plan, measure, and verify. A knowledge-sharer. You'd rather write the runbook than be the only one who knows how it works. Why Nascient Lead engineer on a multi-site program from day one, not a seat on someone else's bench Direct access to leadership; small team, fast decisions A path from contract to full-time with a growing firm expanding across LA public-sector and enterprise accounts We treat our people like family and expect the same in return How to apply Apply through Indeed with your resume. In place of a cover letter, tell us briefly about one CUCM-to-cloud migration you led and one thing that went wrong on it. Nascient Networks is an equal opportunity employer. Everyone deserves to be treated with decency, dignity, and respect regardless of background, ethnicity, gender, or socioeconomic status.
