No remote, relocation, or out of state candidates. On-call duties. Could go FTE. Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Systems Administrator to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of our enterprise IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate must possess deep expertise in Linux system administration , system architecture, and a broad range of IT technologies including virtualization, cloud services, protocols, and security. This role requires a strategic thinker capable of developing scalable solutions aligned with business needs, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across our systems. The Senior Linux Systems Admin will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize our IT environment and support innovative projects in a fast-paced environment. If you are not an expert in Linux, this is not the role for you . Responsibilities Manage and maintain Linux-based systems, including Red Hat , Ubuntu , and other distributions, ensuring optimal performance and security. On-call 2 out of every 3 weeks . # of tickets per evening average 0-2, with most able to resolve the next morning. Design and implement scalable system architectures leveraging virtualization (VMware, ESXi), containerization (Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (AWS). Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, Shell Scripting, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins to streamline operations. Oversee system security protocols including firewalls, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and information security best practices to safeguard organizational data. Configure and manage enterprise storage solutions utilizing RAID controllers and NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB for high availability. Implement load balancing solutions and service-oriented architecture (SOA) to ensure system resilience and scalability. Administer databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server using T-SQL or PL/SQL for data integrity and performance tuning. Monitor system health using tools like Nagios or Zabbix; troubleshoot issues proactively; perform capacity planning. Collaborate with development teams to support microservices architectures utilizing RESTful APIs, DevOps practices, Docker containers, Kubernetes clusters, and SDLC methodologies. Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and architecture diagrams; participate in disaster recovery planning. Lead efforts in implementing information security measures including firewalls, VPNs, encryption protocols; conduct regular vulnerability assessments. Qualifications Extensive experience in Linux system administration , system architecture , and IT infrastructure management. Proven expertise with virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi; container orchestration with Kubernetes; cloud services such as AWS. Manage Group Policy, Gluster SAN, Ceph, and identity management tools. Strong knowledge of networking protocols including DNS, DHCP, VPNs; experience with firewalls and security best practices. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server) along with data management tools like T-SQL or PL/SQL, solution architecture, microservices, RESTful APIs, DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash (Unix shell), Python; familiarity with Git for version control; Jenkins for automation pipelines. Experience working within Agile environments; understanding of SDLC processes for software deployment. Hands-on experience with NoSQL, SQL databases Knowledge of system design Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex systems and implement effective solutions.
