Linux System Administrator

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator to support and manage enterprise Linux infrastructure across private and public cloud environments. This role involves administration, automation, security, performance tuning, and operational support for mission-critical systems supporting county operations and election-related environments.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Linux administration, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, automation scripting, and enterprise security tools while working in a highly secure 24x7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and support Linux environments including:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Ubuntu
CentOS
SUSE
Debian
Manage Linux systems across AWS, Azure, and GCP cloud platforms
Perform installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Linux servers
Develop and maintain automation using:
Ansible
Shell scripting
Python scripting
Design, manage, monitor, and optimize Kubernetes clusters in cloud environments
Perform vulnerability assessments, patch testing, and quarterly security patch deployments
Maintain secure computing and storage systems following organizational security policies
Support VMware infrastructure including vCenter and ESXi
Monitor system performance, capacity planning, alerting, and tuning
Coordinate and execute infrastructure changes during maintenance windows
Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational guides
Collaborate with developers, cybersecurity teams, engineers, and operations teams
Participate in a 24x7 on-call support environment
Required Skills & Qualifications
7+ years of Linux System Administration experience
Strong expertise in:
RHEL
Ubuntu
CentOS
SUSE
Debian
4+ years of experience with:
Ansible
Shell scripting
Python scripting
Experience managing Kubernetes clusters on AWS, Azure, or GCP
Strong understanding of Linux security, patching, and vulnerability remediation
Experience with enterprise security tools such as:
McAfee
Cisco AMP
Nessus/Tenable
Tanium
Dell Secureworks Red Cloak
Experience with VMware, vCenter, and ESXi
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Experience working in secure, high-availability enterprise environments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting government or election-related environments
Knowledge of infrastructure automation and DevOps practices
Experience in performance tuning and capacity management
Project management experience
Experience working in 24x7 operational support environments
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Equivalent professional experience may substitute for degree requirements
Additional Information
Local candidates to Los Angeles County preferred
Onsite work required in Downey, CA and City of Industry locations
Candidates must be comfortable supporting election preparation and coverage environments
This role may require after-hours and weekend support during maintenance windows and election cycles
