Job Description

The Village of Tinley Park is a vibrant, progressive community located in the fast-growing Interstate 80 corridor in southwest suburban Chicago. As the 19th-largest city in Metropolitan Chicago boasting a residential population of 56,000 residents and nearly 1,000 businesses, this exceptional community possesses everything from a fun and lively Downtown district to flourishing residential neighborhoods to thriving corporate, commercial and entertainment centers, all tied together under Tinley Park's Life Amplified brand. We seek qualified applicants to fill the position of Systems Administrator in the Information Technology Department. This position is responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. The Systems Administrator is responsible for the implementation and project management of information management systems focused on ensuring that existing and future information systems function properly by working with IT management to identify and analyze the various departments' information management system requirements. This position will resolve questions of program intent, data input and output requirements, coordinate and direct user and hardware and software vendors in development or correction of programs and assist in the testing of new and modified programs. They will also develop and document procedures for operations and monitor hardware and software processes and/or failures. This position will install, repair, maintain, and integrate servers, computer components, hardware, software, cable modems/Internet link, cabling, routers, and monitors; ensure Village compliance with software licensing provisions and copyright laws; and troubleshoot and debug programs. Will coordinate hardware and software maintenance, schedule and perform preventative maintenance, and answer questions and provide information to system users, investigate complaints and recommend corrective action. Additional responsibilities include running computer batch jobs and schedules, providing end-user support and technical consultation to Village departments, performing network system back-up and data recovery, updating virus protection, researching and evaluating PC software and hardware, and keeping abreast of new applications and new application management tools. This position requires a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or other closely related field with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience working in the Information Technology field preferably in the area of server administrator, operations, or security administration. Position requires response for emergency situations outside of normal office hours and serves on a rotating on-call schedule.
