Linux Systems Engineer Blue Heron InfoTech Full-Time About Blue Heron InfoTech Blue Heron InfoTech provides modern IT infrastructure solutions for manufacturers and growing businesses. We specialize in private cloud platforms, Linux infrastructure, identity management, cybersecurity, virtualization, backup and disaster recovery, and business collaboration systems. Rather than relying solely on public cloud services, we help organizations build secure, reliable, and scalable infrastructure that they own and control. Our team designs, deploys, and supports complete technology solutions using open-source and enterprise technologies. Position Summary We are seeking a motivated and highly skilled Linux Systems Engineer to join our growing team. This is not a traditional help desk position . You will design, deploy, maintain, and improve Linux-based infrastructure for both Blue Heron InfoTech and our customers. Projects range from private cloud deployments and virtualization to identity management, secure business email, backup systems, and enterprise collaboration platforms. You'll work directly with experienced engineers on real-world projects while helping build the technical foundation of a growing technology company. Responsibilities Design, deploy, and maintain Linux server infrastructure. Configure and manage Docker and Docker Compose environments. Deploy and administer Proxmox virtualization platforms. Implement and support Nextcloud private cloud solutions. Configure and maintain Keycloak identity management and Single Sign-On (SSO). Deploy and administer Mailcow business email systems. Install and support Moodle Learning Management Systems. Configure Synology NAS storage, replication, and backup strategies. Configure Nginx Proxy Manager and reverse proxy environments. Manage DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, and network infrastructure. Integrate Linux systems with Microsoft Active Directory and LDAP. Monitor server health, performance, and security. Develop automation using Bash, Python, or PowerShell. Troubleshoot Linux, networking, and virtualization issues. Create and maintain technical documentation. Participate in customer implementations and occasional onsite installations. Assist with disaster recovery planning and business continuity solutions. Stay current with emerging technologies and security best practices. Required Qualifications Professional experience administering Linux servers (Ubuntu or Debian preferred) Strong command-line experience Experience with Docker and containerized applications Understanding of TCP/IP networking Experience with DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewalls Knowledge of Active Directory and LDAP Experience with backup and disaster recovery Bash scripting experience Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects Preferred Qualifications Experience with one or more of the following: Proxmox VE VMware Hyper-V Synology DSM Nextcloud Mailcow Keycloak Moodle LMS Nginx Proxy Manager OPNsense or pfSense MySQL or MariaDB Git Python PowerShell SSL/TLS certificates Manufacturing IT environments What You'll Be Working On Our engineers work on a wide variety of technologies including: Linux Infrastructure Private Cloud Virtualization Identity Management Single Sign-On Cybersecurity Backup & Disaster Recovery Business Email Learning Management Systems Network Infrastructure Storage Solutions Automation Every week brings new projects and new opportunities to learn. What Success Looks Like Within your first year, you'll be able to: Deploy complete Linux server environments. Implement secure customer infrastructure. Configure virtualization platforms. Deploy Nextcloud, Mailcow, and Keycloak solutions. Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies. Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues independently. Produce high-quality technical documentation. Assist with customer implementations from planning through deployment. $60,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
