Provides the networking and storage operations, support and design to maintain a stable and efficient network for the administrative and instructional computers to carry and store data and voice traffic on the APSB network with the necessary safeguards for students and staff
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Associate's Degree, with at least eighteen semester hours in electronics, telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering, or any combination of these fields. In lieu of an Associate's degree, at least two certifications in server, networking, virtualization, or security technologies may be substituted. These may include but are not limited to CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft certifications in administration or security, Cisco certifications, or VMware certifications. Additionally, in lieu of formal education and certifications, a minimum of 4 years experience in a network technician role with hands-on experience with the technologies listed below may be substituted. 2.
EXPERIENCE
- At least two years of professional experience in network support are required for this position. This may include, but is not limited to troubleshooting network issues in a desktop support role. 3. SKILLS - Working knowledge of current server technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory, network technologies such as wired and wireless configurations, virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, or security technologies such as firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form with a diverse group of administrators, teachers, and staff is essential. 4.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be flexible with respect to work schedules and willing to work on holidays, weekends, and after-hours to minimize downtime.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain the Windows, Linux, and VMware servers at schools and administrative sites including hardware and software installation, maintenance, repair and configuration as directed by the Network Administrator. Diagnose networking problems at school sites related to servers, switches, wireless networking, and network cabling Troubleshoot administrative and computer-related hardware and software problems and report problems and solutions to the Network Administrator. Recommend and implement enhancements and observe and evaluate total system performance for the lab and classroom technologies, including instructional Local Area Networks. Performs periodic maintenance procedures on all intranet-related computing equipment as defined by the systems documentation and the Network Administrator. Determine the cause of recurring computer, network, and server malfunctions and correct. Identify opportunities and recommend methods to improve service, work processes, and network performance. Report conditions associated with server or connection failure to the Network Administrator. Monitor and analyze the Intranet networks using established test procedures. Backup servers, selected data, and configuration files for all Intranet servers. Attend technical training as directed by the Network Administrator. Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the technology department and the school system. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
