GENERAL DESCRIPTION

DESCRIBING ROLE
): The Director of Student Support Services ensures that appropriate and rigorous educational services and instruction areis provided to all students regardless of their unique learning needsstyles or challenges. The Director of Student Support Services works with all stakeholders to fosterembrace a district culture of inclusive practices so that all students learn and make meaningful progress, and experience a sense of belonging in their schools. This is a full-time 12-month position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in special education or a related discipline Active DESE license as a Special Education Administrator and the SEI Administrator Endorsement Minimum of ten years of experience in a public school district, including experience teaching and supervising in the field of special education Effective interpersonal and leadership skills; experience facilitating group decision-making and communication among divergent groups Knowledge of state and federal regulations and legal requirements Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully Ability to work with staff and the public Ability to solve challenging situations Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

): Lead the Student Support Services Department in defining a shared vision and clearly articulated strategic initiatives to accomplish that vision. Develop and oversee specialized programming, interventions, and initiatives designed to meet the needs of all learners Ensure that the District fully complies with federal and state special education regulations, including but not limited to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 Develop and oversee specialized programming, interventions, and initiatives designed to meet the needs of all learners Meet regularly with school-based student support teams and school leaders Promote positive school cultures that are responsivesensitive to students with disabilities and mental health challenges Oversee out-of-district placements as defined by the requirements of the District including but not limited to serving as liaison for students who require out-placement, participate in progress monitoring, attend team meetings as required, coordinate programs to transition students back to the district where appropriate and meeting with parents to facilitate placement and IEP Participate in the budget development process and manage allocated funds including federal, state, and local grants and complying with the requirements of Circuit Breaker Reimbursement Maintain and establish relationships with community, state and local agencies to coordinate services for all students Plan and facilitate the District's Student Safety Network and the Providers' Breakfast Develop and implement district-wide professional development in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning to ensure that staff learn and implement best practice instructional methodologies, assessment protocols, and curriculum Engages with the latest research, trends, regulations, and standards that inform ELA teaching and learning and interpret and communicate to staff as necessary Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate student support services staff in collaboration with principals and administrators Coordinate the roles of various specialized consultants to ensure consistent access to specialists' services Communicate effectively and collaborate with families District's parent advisory council, and other stakeholders Attend school committee meetings and prepare and present reports for the committees as the Superintendent may request Contribute to the District Teaching and Learning Team, providing the perspective of the Student Support Services Department and helping to establish a shared vision for Student Support Services for the District. Any other tasks as directed by the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, or designee
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school environment during the school day, however, there will be occasions for after-school or evening meetings.
Physical Requirements:
This position is primarily a stationary position in an office or school setting with moderate noise. The person in the position must be able to ambulate in a large building and have reliable transportation to be mobile between school buildings. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. (laptop and/or materials) and use computer and office equipment effectively. Vision and hearing correctable to normal ranges. This position frequently communicates with staff, students and other constituents. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
