Senior Network Administrator Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Portland, ME Description The University of New England is seeking a Senior Network Administrator who can think strategically and develop comprehensive plans to support the current needs and future growth and expansion of the University's multi-campus computer networks and data centers. The Senior Network Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of the institution's enterprise network infrastructure. This position provides technical leadership for wired and wireless networking services across multiple campuses, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for academic, administrative, and residential environments. The Senior Network Administrator serves as a subject matter expert in Cisco and Meraki technologies and works collaboratively with Information Technology staff, faculty, researchers, students, and external vendors to support the University's mission. Educational benefits : UNE tuition waiver for employees, spouses, and domestic partners For more information about our outstanding benefits, please visit: UNE Benefits Overview Responsibilities Design, implement, maintain, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure utilizing Cisco and Meraki technologies. Administer and support campus wired and wireless networks, including Cisco Catalyst switches, routers, Cisco Firepower firewalls, and Meraki wireless access points. Manage Cisco Secure Firewall (Firepower) platforms, including security policies, VPN services, NAT, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), URL filtering, and advanced threat protection. Maintain and support Cisco Meraki Dashboard environments, including wireless, switching, security appliances, and SD-WAN. Monitor network performance, capacity, and security using enterprise management and monitoring platforms. Design and maintain highly available network architectures supporting academic, research, and administrative systems. Configure and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies, including VLANs, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, STP, QoS, multicast, DHCP, and DNS. Implement and maintain network segmentation, access controls, and security best practices. Collaborate with Information Security teams to support vulnerability remediation, incident response, and regulatory compliance. Support remote access technologies, site-to-site VPNs, and secure connectivity for cloud and hybrid environments. Lead infrastructure refresh projects and modernization initiatives. Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, standards, and operational procedures. Provide Tier III support and perform root cause analysis for critical incidents. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across the infrastructure team. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for troubleshooting and project implementation. Participate in after-hours maintenance and on-call support rotations as required. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, and five or more years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise network environments. Required Qualifications Extensive experience with Cisco networking technologies. Experience administering Cisco Secure Firewall (Firepower) and Meraki environments.
