PURPOSE OF JOB
The Network Administrator I is responsible designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing the local and wide area network and application components. Performs a wide variety of installation, maintenance, and training tasks to ensure the network performance meets Cooperative and user satisfaction. The Network Administrator also provides information and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to maintain and improve mission-critical information and Network systems. The Network Administrator I will engage in monitoring and being pro-active in-service ownership of tasks such as configurations backups and restoration and ensures they are performed to minimize downtime of critical business services. Inclusion in 24x7 on-call support will be required as part of an active rotation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs computers, printers, or other hardware connections and applications. Document and maintain technical environments, processes, procedures, and test plans. Provide operational support for internal customers on varying support issues. Configure and install various network devices, protocol configuration, and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, BGP, OSPF, QoS) for access to business applications. Configure wireless networking that supports open and secured access. Assist in the design of multi-server environments including IP address schemes, DNS, WINS, etc. Evaluate alternative technologies and architectures in relations to Network infrastructure needs. Maintain multi-site network operations and software applications, operating systems, and regular maintenance with both private and public facilities. Actively participate and provide input for audit and compliance requests. Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, site personnel, outside vendors, etc. to provide technical assistance and support. Troubleshooting malfunctions of network hardware and software applications to resolve operational issues and restore services. Available during non-business hours to resolve system issues as needed. Provide Operational Support for service patching, backups, and restoration activities. Monitor performance of systems and advise senior staff of problems, defects, or potential security breaches. Maintains service by performing any necessary upgrades and repairs. Assist team to drive root cause analysis and solutions to moderately complex production issues. Ensures compliance with the Cooperative's security policies, procedures, and standards. Participation of business continuity and disaster recovery process. Maintain current knowledge of plan executables. Deliver projects associated with the role and other initiatives or duties as requested.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Information Systems. 5 years of experience implementing, managing, and maintaining multi-location business environments. Organizational skills and detail-oriented. Willingness to work flexible / odd hours at times, based on needs. Ability to write reports, peer correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of leaders, staff, and peers. Understanding of the basics of networking and its workings (DNS, Security, IP Routing, TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, VPN, Email Routing, SPAM, etc.) Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows for servers and pcs, Active Directory, DHCP and DNS services. Knowledge of LAN and WAN topologies and architecture, Wireless, and IP telephony. Working knowledge of configuring and maintaining some or all these technologies: firewalls, routers, switches, wired and wireless, load balancers, proxy servers, network management, and security technologies.
Working knowledge of telecommunications systems:
VOIP telephony, remote worker technology, VPN, internet and other business communications. Working knowledge of securing, monitoring and tuning systems to achieve optimum performance levels, and planning and performing backups and disaster recovery. Develop working relationships with customers, co-workers, administration, vendors, and others in order to discuss technical issues pertaining to problems, purchases or technical specifications.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
