Full Job Description Job Summary:
The Data Systems Administrator (DSA) manages the routine configuration, data standards and database management of the South Carolina Aquarium's comprehensive ticketing, fundraising and membership management software. Also responsible for its relationship/integrations to other applications. The successful candidate will work closely with the Business Intelligence Officer (BIO) to maintain the primary Constituent Relationship Manager (CRM) of record - Altru at the time of this posting. The DSA will optimize data flow processes, aid in reporting on this data and, in collaboration with the BIO, ensure the security and integrity of this information. The DSA must continually expand their knowledge of business applications as technology changes. This position will be responsible for developing complex queries, exports, imports, and assistance in custom reporting. The DSA will provide expertise and training to allow the South Carolina Aquarium's database systems to be fully utilized by staff and assist management in assessing and analyzing data.
Essential Functions:
Adhere to the South Carolina Aquarium Policies & Procedures. Manage constituent data throughout the data lifecycle, including the movement of data within and between multiple systems. Work with the BIO and appropriate divisions to optimize data flow through the development of integrations and automations. Work with the BIO to implement best practices and other measures to secure data applications. Serve as the point person for Altru (CRM of record) configuration, integration and ad-hoc service requests. Triage support issues to determine the correct actions for resolution or escalation and transition the knowledge to the appropriate business area(s) for future issue resolution. Work across divisions to ensure access to consistent, timely and accurate data services. Routinely review data in applicable systems and address data quality issues as necessary. Advocate internally for Altru by recommending use of standard functionality and configuration settings to improve operational efficiency across divisions. Develop and implement training plans, key materials, and a communication plan regarding Altru's (or other CRM) daily use and reporting. Maintain updated documentation and data maps.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the mission of the South Carolina Aquarium by participating in sponsored programs and events. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies with minimal guidance. Understanding of database design and modeling concepts to support data analytics. Ability to apply responsible AI practices, promoting data literacy, ethical use, and sustainable approaches that align with organizational values and governance standards. Ability to convey technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical staff. Ability to comprehend complex requirements and clarify ambiguous information. Ability to assist cross-functional teams in issue resolution and process planning. Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills to meet evolving data tools. Ability to function independently while maintaining clear communication with BIO and individuals in other divisions, as appropriate. Goal-oriented with proven ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attentiveness to detail.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience. Experience in a non-profit and/or guest services environment preferred. Experience in data management, processing, cleaning, and synthesis from multiple sources. Experience with business applications (ticketing, CRMs, Blackbaud software, etc.); Altru experience preferred.
