Virginia Beach, VA (Onsite or Hybrid depending on department policy).
Job Summary:
The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a skilled and service‑oriented Apps/Platform Support - Systems Administrator to support, maintain, and optimize enterprise applications and platforms that enable efficient municipal operations. This role ensures the stability, security, and performance of critical city systems while providing technical expertise to departments and end users. The ideal candidate has strong experience with application administration, platform support, system integrations, and troubleshooting in a complex, multi‑department environment. A commitment to public service, reliability, and continuous improvement is essential.
Responsibilities:
Administer, configure, and maintain enterprise applications and platforms used across city departments. Monitor system performance, availability, and security to ensure reliable service delivery. Troubleshoot application and platform issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and coordinate resolution efforts. Support system upgrades, patches, enhancements, and integrations in collaboration with IT teams and vendors. Maintain documentation including system configurations, workflows, procedures, and support guides. Assist with user access management, permissions, and security controls in accordance with city policies. Provide technical support to end users, department staff, and project teams. Participate in application lifecycle management, including planning, testing, deployment, and post‑implementation support. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into system or platform requirements. Ensure compliance with municipal standards, cybersecurity guidelines, and state regulations. Support data integrity, reporting needs, and system monitoring activities.
Requirements:
Must be a US Citizen. Bachelor s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; OR 6 or more years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. 3-5+ years of experience in systems administration, application support, or platform management. Strong understanding of enterprise applications, system integrations, and platform architecture. Experience with troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and system maintenance. Familiarity with IT service management principles and ticketing systems. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Commitment to customer service and public‑sector values. Successful background and drug screening check.
Preferred Requirements:
Experience working in local government or public‑sector IT environments. Knowledge of municipal systems such as ERP platforms, permitting systems, asset management tools, or public safety applications. Experience with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS), virtualization, or containerized environments. Proficiency with SQL, scripting, automation tools, or monitoring platforms. Certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+), ITIL, or similar. Experience supporting modernization, cloud migration, or enterprise platform consolidation initiatives.
