Job Description

The Product Owner will lead the definition, prioritization, and delivery of Jacobs' next-generation AI-enabled platform for water and wastewater infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, and operations. This platform is being developed as a unified decision platform and live system of record that connects project and plant data, engineering models, cost information, design workflows, and operational intelligence across the asset lifecycle. The Product Owner will be responsible for translating business strategy, user needs, engineering workflows, and technical capabilities into a clear product roadmap and executable backlog. This role requires a leader who can bridge water-sector domain expertise, digital product development, AI-enabled delivery, data management, and stakeholder alignment. The Product Owner will work closely with engineering SMEs, software development teams, data and AI teams, business leadership, delivery teams, and end users to ensure the platform delivers measurable value to Jacobs and its clients. Purpose of the Role The Product Owner will ensure the platform evolves from a collection of powerful but fragmented tools into a scalable, adopted, AI-enabled platform that helps engineers make better decisions faster.
The role exists to:
  • Define and own the product vision, roadmap, and priorities.
  • Translate water infrastructure delivery workflows into clear product requirements.
  • Prioritize features that reduce engineering effort, improve design quality, reduce rework, and increase margin.
  • Drive adoption across Design-Build, design, construction/startup, and operations use cases.
  • Ensure the platform supports Jacobs' strategic goals around augmented delivery, collaborative data models, AI enablement, and long-term client digital relationships. Key Responsibilities Product Strategy and Vision
  • Own and maintain the product vision, roadmap, and release priorities.
  • Translate business objectives into a practical product strategy for MVP, adoption, and future platform expansion.
  • Align product decisions with Jacobs' goals for AI-enabled design, design-build margin improvement, scalable delivery, and client-facing digital value.
  • Ensure the product roadmap reflects both near-term delivery needs and long-term platform scalability. Backlog Ownership and Delivery
  • Own, manage, and prioritize the product backlog.
  • Write clear epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and success measures.
  • Prioritize work based on business value, user impact, delivery feasibility, risk reduction, and strategic alignment.
  • Work with delivery leads, developers, designers, data teams, and architects to support sprint planning and execution.
  • Make timely product decisions to keep delivery teams unblocked.
  • Accept or reject completed work based on defined acceptance criteria and user value. User and Workflow Understanding
  • Work directly with SMEs to understand how the platform should support real engineering workflows.
  • Capture and prioritize user needs across feasibility, planning, preliminary design, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
  • Lead user feedback sessions, demos, UAT planning, and adoption reviews.
  • Translate complex engineering workflows into intuitive platform capabilities. AI and Data Enablement
  • Partner with AI, data science, and data architecture teams to prioritize AI-enabled capabilities that make project and plant data more usable.
  • Ensure AI is positioned as an accelerator for engineers, not a replacement for engineering judgment.
  • Help define data quality, data governance, and standard data model requirements needed to support reliable engineering decisions.
  • Prioritize features that improve data continuity from project to project and asset to asset. Stakeholder Alignment
  • Facilitate tradeoff decisions between scope, schedule, technical complexity, and business value.
  • Communicate roadmap progress, product decisions, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.
  • Ensure Product, Technical, SME, AI, and Delivery teams are aligned around a shared definition of success.
  • Support executive updates, business plan inputs, adoption planning, and go-to-market discussions. Adoption and Business Value
  • Define and track success metrics for adoption and value realization.
  • Partner with business leaders to support internal adoption campaigns and future client-facing SaaS or digital service models.
  • Experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, Digital Delivery Lead, Engineering Delivery Lead, or similar role.
  • Ability to translate engineering workflows into clear digital product requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineers, software developers, data teams, designers, business stakeholders, and executive sponsors.
  • Strong backlog management, prioritization, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Ability to make product decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Familiarity with agile delivery methods, sprint planning, user stories, acceptance criteria, and UAT.
  • Strong business judgment and ability to connect product features to measurable value. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting enterprise software adoption or product commercialization.
  • Familiarity with SaaS, platform strategy, or client-facing digital products.
