Job Description

Overview At Generational Systems (Gene-Sys), we're working to introduce a new way of metal 3D printing that's meant for everyone. Our system is safer, lower-cost, easier-to-use, and more accessible than existing metal 3D printers. Located in Auburn, Alabama, we started as research at Auburn University, and grew into a startup that is working with education, industry, and defense to refine our prototype and make it widely available. Our team is expanding and looking for capable and eager candidates who want to be a part of a growing startup. We want people excited about taking on new challenges, and working to solve a wide range of problems. Gene-Sys is seeking a Software Engineer for the purposes of product design, testing, prototyping and more.

Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or a related field Proficiency with languages such as C++, C, Python, and Perl Experience with software and firmware design Familiarity with hardware integration Problem solving and critical thinking Experience in project management and planning Good teamwork and communication skills Experience with 3D printing Strong preference for engineers who are confident in their own code written without GPT, Claude, or other
Artificial Intelligence Responsibilities:
Plan and oversee development of a modified open source slicing software in collaboration with contracted development team Modify and maintain Marlin firmware, using appropriate documentation for ongoing development with other team members Investigate possible transition to Reprap, to meet needs of possible hardware changes. Test iterations of slicing software and firmware on prototype 3D printers. Record and analyse results of testing to communicate with team and interested parties, and recommend relevant development decisions and priorities Identify bugs and problems and implement changes in a timely manner Coordinate with other engineering personnel on design and integration Compile reports on ongoing projects and document results Assist in presentations, demos, and potentially trade shows Performs other related duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
