Skills and Competencies 8+ years of hands-on experience delivering high-impact, multi-team technical projects Proficiency in Java, Scala, C#, C++, or Python Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, or Oracle, and NoSQL data stores Proven development of production-quality RESTful APIs and microservices Experience with cloud-native application development using Docker and Kubernetes, as well as on-prem solutions Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis Solid knowledge of software design principles and writing well-tested, maintainable code Advanced knowledge of multi-threading, memory management, and query processing Focus on scalability, availability, reliability, security, and cost-effective execution Strong problem-solving skills, resilience, and adaptability in fast-changing environments Expertise in testing strategies and maintaining overall system health Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using tools such as Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience Responsibilities The Staff Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of complex, large-scale technical solutions while influencing strategy, mentoring engineers, and driving high-impact outcomes across multiple teams. Define and execute multi-year, multi-team technical strategies with measurable business impact Deliver large-scale, high-stakes projects that exceed quality and reliability standards Drive alignment across engineering teams to prioritize impactful customer outcomes Influence technical roadmaps and strategic decisions through sound engineering judgment Mentor engineers across teams and foster a strong culture of technical excellence and growth Design, build, and maintain scalable and resilient software architectures Lead change management initiatives and operate effectively in ambiguous environments Balance immediate delivery needs with long-term platform sustainability Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate technical risks Communicate clear and compelling technical narratives to influence senior stakeholders Partner closely with product teams to align technical trade-offs with customer value Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and documentation efforts About the Team The Data Platform Engineering team supports key products and platform components within Moody's Insurance group, including Risk Modeler, Data Bridge, Underwrite IQ, and the Unified Data Store. The team is focused on building scalable and reliable platforms and services across databases, REST APIs, and core platform capabilities, leveraging technologies such as Java, C#, and SQL Server to enable high-quality data-driven solutions.

the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $168,100.00 - $243,700.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation.
