Internship, Software Engineer, Service Engineering (Winter/Spring 2027) Tesla Motors, Inc. 48 - 56 USD paid holidays, flex time, 401(k) United States, California, Palo Alto Sep 08, 2026

What to Expect This position is expected to begin around January/February 2027 and continue through April/May 2027. Internships at Tesla are generally full-time, onsite roles that last a minimum of 12 weeks.

International Students:

If your work authorization is via CPT, consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year. About the Team Service Engineering is responsible for real-time diagnostic support for the service network (the field), development and improvement of diagnostic tools and procedures, and feedback of top field issues to our development teams to improve current and future products. Tesla is seeking an intern that is passionate about the product, a strong critical thinker, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues. What You'll Do

Service Engineering:
Toolbox:

Responsible for developing and maintaining the primary diagnostic and repair platform used by technicians in Tesla Service Centers, independent repair shops, and even by vehicle owners at home. Our goal is to create intuitive, user-friendly tools that streamline the diagnostic and repair process, reducing the time and complexity associated with vehicle maintenance. We continuously innovate and improve Toolbox to ensure it remains a cutting-edge solution for servicing Tesla vehicles.

Onboard Diagnostics:

Focuses on diagnostic and repair firmware that runs on the vehicle. We are responsible for accelerating the speed and reliability of vehicle side diagnostics for Tesla service centers and third parties. What You'll Bring

Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering , Computer Science, or a related field with a graduation date between August 2027 - August 2028

Software development experience

Experience in software testing and automation scripting

Strong proficiency with Python and JavaScript. C++, Rust, and Go are all a plus

Comfortable with Linux environments and system administration

Hands on experience with vehicles or other hardware projects; prior experience in Formula SAE or experience working on personal cars is a plus

Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills

A passion for troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring and observability

Expected Compensation

$48.12 - $56.12 + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
