The Role As a Forward Deployed Engineer , you'll partner directly with development teams that are facing challenges around software delivery, release automation or application modernisation. Approximately 70% of your time will be spent writing code and configuration , helping teams improve everything from automated testing and dependency management through to deployment automation, observability and platform resilience. This role combines Software Engineering, DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems while helping other engineering teams become more effective. Essential functions What You'll Be Doing You'll work alongside development teams to: Improve software delivery and release cadence Design and implement comprehensive automated testing strategies Build unit, integration and smoke test suites Introduce Test-Driven Development (TDD) best practices Upgrade Java applications and Node.js runtimes Modernise legacy applications and dependencies Containerise applications using Docker Build and improve CI/CD pipelines Automate dependency management using Renovate Improve branching strategies, source control and code review processes Strengthen application security, authentication and secrets management Automate database deployments using Liquibase Implement infrastructure automation using Ansible Introduce observability, monitoring and logging best practices Improve exception handling and operational resilience Design deployment strategies supporting highly available production systems Mentor engineering teams on modern software delivery practices Qualifications What We're Looking For We're looking for experienced software engineers who enjoy improving engineering practices as much as building software. You'll ideally have experience with: Strong Java, Kotlin, Scala or TypeScript development Test-Driven Development (TDD) Automated testing frameworks Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery Secure software development Docker Kubernetes or OpenShift Linux (Red Hat preferred) Maven, Gradle and npm Git and modern source control workflows Application observability and monitoring Cloud-native software delivery AI-assisted software development using tools such as GitHub Copilot Technology Stack You'll work with modern engineering technologies including Java, TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Red Hat Linux, Jenkins, Gradle, Maven, npm, Liquibase, Ansible, Renovate, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, observability platforms and AI-assisted development tools including GitHub Copilot.
