Job Description

Overview:
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join our Groton, CT team full-time. Applicants should have a BS or MS degree in a related field, and proficiency with C/C++ or Python development. Successful applicants will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design and build maritime sensing, detection, tracking and autonomy software in support of national security applications. Our team supports R D for a wide variety of maritime systems including sonar combat systems, autonomous vehicles, underwater sensing, tracking, and communication arrays, and payloads for both manned and unmanned vehicles. An interest or background in maritime communications, networking, autonomous systems, or signal processing would be beneficial. APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. At APS, you will work in a small company environment where technical and administrative excellence are rewarded, and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged. This position will allow applicants to make meaningful contributions to the APS mission.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
In this role, you will help develop and implement maritime surface and subsea software for: Detection, classification and localization algorithms Command and control interfaces, simulations, and visualizations for various acoustic sensors Acoustic, signal processing and autonomy algorithms
Required Skills and Attributes:
BS or MS degree in computer science, engineering, or applied math/physics Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB, and Python Experience developing for Linux platforms Experience using modern software engineering tooling (git, CI, Docker, ) Understanding of software design and user experience (UX) principles Ability to obtain and maintain a S.
Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance Preferred Skills and Attributes:
2+ years of relevant professional experience A passion for maritime systems Background in autonomy, networking or communications theory Familiarity with
IP/TCP/UDP
networking and
RS232/RS422
communications Experience with MySQL (e.g. MariaDB) databases Experience with MATLAB and ability to convert MATLAB code to C/C++ and/or Python Working knowledge of software middleware, such as Protocol Buffers Working knowledge of core signal processing concepts (sampling, filtering, transforms) APS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the General Dynamics Corporation, offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and comfortable working conditions.
