Role:

As an Applications Engineer, you will serve as the senior technical bridge between customer product requirements and VulcanForms? manufacturing capabilities. You will evaluate technical feasibility early in the sales cycle, develop preliminary product concepts, identify risks and constraints, and translate customer needs into actionable documentation for internal product development and NPI engineering teams. In partnership with Sales, you will act as the senior technical voice during proposals and customer discussions, helping sophisticated industrial customers understand how VulcanForms? capabilities can support their products and manufacturing goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze customer product requirements and determine how VulcanForms? manufacturing capabilities can address customer needs
• Develop first-cut product concepts and proposals to evaluate technical fit and manufacturing feasibility
• Identify technical risks, constraints, tradeoffs, and opportunities early in the customer engagement
• Gather, clarify, and document customer requirements for internal NPI and product development teams
• Translate customer intent into clear technical documentation that engineering teams can use for execution
• Partner closely with Sales on technical proposals, customer meetings, and commercial opportunities
• Serve as the senior technical presence in high-stakes customer-facing conversations
• Explain complex manufacturing concepts, limitations, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Build trusted relationships with customers, sales partners, and internal engineering stakeholders
• Support the transition of qualified opportunities from commercial discussions into technical development and production programs

Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience in applications engineering, sales engineering, technical product development, or a related role within a manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated ability to operate at a senior, customer-facing technical level
• Strong ability to assess technical feasibility quickly and communicate constraints, risks, and tradeoffs clearly
• Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate customer discussions into actionable engineering documentation
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior customer stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
• Comfort serving as the senior technical representative in customer and sales conversations
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Sales, Engineering, NPI, and other cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience with metal additive manufacturing or 3D printing
• Experience with adjacent metal manufacturing processes, such as precision machining, casting, or forging
• Experience supporting technical sales cycles in complex, engineered-to-order, or highly customized manufacturing environments
• Experience working with design and engineering teams as well as sales teams, each with distinct priorities and requirements
• Experience translating customer product requirements into manufacturing concepts, technical proposals, or NPI inputs
• Familiarity with design for additive manufacturing, precision machining, and vertically integrated production environments

Compensation:

• \$140,800
• $193,698/year, plus eligibility for additional variable compensation Active Filters
